I have been scouring the web for bioinformatics slack groups, and wanted to share the ones I have found.

Would you be willing to add a section for slack groups? If not, I could also create my own list.

I would suggest to reorder some sections lexicographically, like in awesome-rust 🦀

Github-Pages can now be easily enabled throughout the project-settings 🤩

After that we should be able to surf on https://danielecook.github.io/Awesome-Bioinformatics and view just the README.md like on https://tgotwig.github.io/Awesome-Bioinformatics 🏄‍♂️

We could reference this link inside the about-section of this project ✍️

The above packages: bioconductor, biopython, bioconda, usegalaxy are quite popular in the bioinformatics community.

Shoud we add those to the list of tools?

What do you think about adding a Travis CI script for awesome_bot to validate links on the page in case some go old and stop working?

You just need to make a .travis.yml file with the following:

Here are some other options you can use while checking links

Usage: awesome_bot [file or files]
       awesome_bot [options]
    -f, --files [files]              Comma separated files to check
    -a, --allow [errors]             Status code errors to allow
        --allow-dupe                 Duplicate URLs are allowed
        --allow-ssl                  SSL errors are allowed
        --allow-redirect             Redirected URLs are allowed
        --allow-timeout              URLs that time out are allowed
    -t, --set-timeout [seconds]      Set connection timeout
    -w, --white-list [urls]          Comma separated URLs to white list

Hi @danielecook,

Have you considered trying to add this repo to the awesome repo list along with the other awesome repos? I think it'd be a great addition.

I believe that BioJava and NCBI C++ Toolkit are slightly influential libraries in the field of bioinformatics. They should be appended to the list.

I would suggest to always link to the source-code repository of an project in order to have more consistency, because it's much easier to go from there to the portfolio site than the other way around, sometimes the source-code repository is not even mentioned on the portfolio website 😬
