(migrated from community.bitnami.com)

Long story short, I am wanting to re-set wordpress permissions to their safe and default.

Following the article here (https://docs.bitnami.com/general/apps/wordpress/administration/understand-file-permissions/), I applied those commands, specifically:
sudo find /opt/bitnami/wordpress -type d -exec chmod 775 {} ;

But I noticed that wp-content wasn’t being affected, so I simply ran sudo find /opt/bitnami/wordpress -type d to see what directories it was browsing and it completely skips wp-content and all its subfolders…

I don’t understand at all why this is not listing recursively all wp-content folders and subfolders. Here’s the output of the command:

/opt/bitnami/wordpress
/opt/bitnami/wordpress/licenses
/opt/bitnami/wordpress/wp-admin

The recent changes regarding moving to native system packages seems to have move some of the folders around a bit for WordPress. Indeed there are now 2 WordPress folders:

  • /opt/bitnami/wordpress
  • /bitnami/wordpress/

There is a shortcut/symlink between /opt/bitnami/wordpress/wp-content and /bitnami/wordpress/wp-content. This works great normally, but a fair few plugins are getting messed up poaths when looking for files. For example when looking for their own plugin assets they are getting the following URLs:

example.com/wp-content/bitnami/wordpress/wp-content/plugins/{plugin-name}/path/to/file.jss
File could obviously be anything: .css, .png, etc.

The obvious fix is to just remove one of the folders, e.g. remove the symlink and move the entire “/bitnami/wordpress/wp-content” directory into the “/opt/bitnami/wordpress/wp-content” location. However I thionk that bitnami has separated these for a reason? what would be the implications of doing this?

[WordPress] Any way to use RDS with NGINX Wordpress AWS

Describe your issue as much as you can

(migrated from community.bitnami.com)

I’m using WordPress with NGINX and SSL Certified by Bitnami and Automattic
And I want to use RDS with it. Is it possible?

I saw WordPress with Amazon MariaDB RDS Certified by Bitnami and Automattic
but I don’t think I can use my auto-scaling template with my machine learning policy.
or Is that possible somehow?

Response

You can launch a RDS database and migrate your data to that new database. After that, you will need to configure WordPress to use that new database.

Once you confirm everything works as expected, you will need to disable the MariaDB database that is inside your instance

sudo /opt/bitnami/ctlscript.sh stop mariadb
sudo mv /etc/monit/conf.d/mariadb.conf /etc/monit/conf.d/mariadb.conf.disabled
sudo gonit reload
sudo /opt/bitnami/ctlscript.sh status

CURRENTLY

Following on from Wordpress keeps crashing 1, where our website crashes every 2-3 days due to memory issues. Indeed the diagnostic tool has identified there are memory issues.

It seems unusual because the website is a basic static site with not much activity, and given we are using an AWS t3a.small EC2 instance, I don’t think there should be any issues.

I could be wrong, but it looks like the process php-fpm: pool www is using a lot of memory and has a lot of duplication. I hypothesize it is related to Multiple IP Addresses returning "GET / HTTP/1.1” 302 215" every 30 secs 1. Hopefully you may have some next steps for me!

[WordPress] Multisite

Describe your issue as much as you can

Hi, I have installed the bitnami wordpress multisite locally on my computer. (MacBook Pro 8-Core Intel Core i9, running macOS 11.6). I am running the normal Bitnami Wordpress no problem. I just would like to get the multisite working. Where do I find the multisite user name and password please? (My other bitnami/ wp passwords don’t work)
I tried to download the bitnami diagnostic tool to see if it could help me but I can’t find where to do this to help me?
I have tried to restarting, waiting to all the multisite service buttons are green and opening terminal and running the command: cat ~/bitnami_credentials - but no matter how many times I do this it doesn't work as it comes back to say - no such file or directory.
Thanks :)

Hi there

Have been searching through forum posts and trying various solutions for weeks but cannot seem to find the root cause of the issue.

Whenever I try to update a WP plugin, I get the following warning “Update failed: The update cannot be installed because we will be unable to copy some files. This is usually due to inconsistent file permissions.”.

I run 20+ WordPress instances on AWS Lightsail and this one has me stuck. ANy insight would be very helpful.

I have added the Bitnami Support Tool Code for assistance.

The suggested information didn't help me

Describe your issue as much as you can

(migrated from community.bitnami.com)

I’ve created a new website and installed new theme/plugins, but sometimes its breaking the page because now the wp-content folder is actually not within the wordpress folder where all the other files are (root/opt/bitnami/wordpress/), but instead is somewhere else, and wp-content folder inside the /opt/bitnami/wordpress folder is actually a symlink to the wp-content folder that’s in root/bitnami/wordpress/wp-content

Now some of the assets that are being used in a plugin is referencing

http://www.domain.com/wp-content/bitnami/wordpress/wp-content/plugins/...

instead it should be like:

http://www.domain.com/wp-content/plugins/...

removing /wp-content/bitnami/wordpress/

CURRENTLY

Following on from this issue, and had hoped some recent changes we made on the server may have resolved this issue, but they have not.

We have tested turning W3 Total Cache off and restarting the server but that didn’t resolve the issue.

ISSUE

After running tail -n 10000 access_log | awk '{print $1}'| sort| uniq -c| sort -nr| head -n 10, we get a list like:
238 220.240.255.80
150 15.177.62.37
150 15.177.58.9
150 15.177.58.38
150 15.177.58.37
150 15.177.58.36
150 15.177.18.9
149 15.177.6.9
149 15.177.6.38
149 15.177.62.9

And each ip address has a log that looks like:

15.177.62.38 - - [06/Apr/2022:00:59:03 +0000] “GET / HTTP/1.1” 302 215
15.177.62.38 - - [06/Apr/2022:00:59:33 +0000] “GET / HTTP/1.1” 302 215
15.177.62.38 - - [06/Apr/2022:01:00:03 +0000] “GET / HTTP/1.1” 302 215
15.177.62.38 - - [06/Apr/2022:01:00:33 +0000] “GET / HTTP/1.1” 302 215
15.177.62.38 - - [06/Apr/2022:01:01:03 +0000] “GET / HTTP/1.1” 302 215
15.177.62.38 - - [06/Apr/2022:01:01:33 +0000] “GET / HTTP/1.1” 302 215
15.177.62.38 - - [06/Apr/2022:01:02:04 +0000] “GET / HTTP/1.1” 302 215

I am wondering if this issue may be causing another issue that we are still dealing with.

Are there any ideas you may have to work out what may be causing these ip address 302 errors? e.g. incorrect domain configuration.

Our wordpress & site address in wp_config is https://www.domain.com.au/, but we use https://domain.com.au/ and redirect www to the non-www domain.

Apologies that this issue has dragged on. It’s been frustrating.

TLS certificate expired today.
I tried to remove it and then issue a new one with certbot.
Since it failed that way, I then tried to issue a new one using:
/opt/bitnami/bncert-tool

But it kept failing because I’m using a static IP which of course isn’t the same as the machine one.

I then tried:
/opt/bitnami/bncert-tool --perform_public_ip_validation 0 --perform_dns_validation 0

But it also failed because of connectivity issues.
After that, apache isn’t starting anymore.

I’m completely losst and I don’t know what to do, how to do it

I have the following case and I wanted to see if you could help me find a solution.

I have some EC2 Instances that are in AWS and currently AWS tells me that there is an update to the Bitnami NGINX 1.22.0-1-r01 package and the 1.18 package is currently on the Instances and I wanted to see if there was the possibility of updating without having to create a new instance and migrate everything.

¿Is there a way to update the packaged from the terminal?

(migrated from community.bitnami.com)

Hello all,

I have WordPress installed on an AWS EC2 instance (t2.micro).
I have the default admin user ‘user’, and I have created one other user who is an author.
Everything worked fine initially, in terms of accessing the site, creating posts and performing admin duties etc.

I wanted to make use of the WordPress API. I’ve been doing some experiments with POSTMAN. I’ve been able to GET posts, comments, users etc OK but am unable to POST using the API. I get back this response:

{“code”:”rest_cannot_create”,”message”:”Sorry, you are not allowed to create posts as this user.”,”data”:{“status”:401}}

I’ve installed and activated the plugin referenced here:
https://developer.wordpress.org/rest-api/using-the-rest-api/authentication/ 154

The plugin itself is here:
https://github.com/WP-API/Basic-Auth 12

I’m trying to POST using Basic Authenticiation and have tried with the credentials for each user, but I’m still getting the same response as above.

A moderator on the WordPress forums suggested I take a look at this:
https://github.com/WP-API/node-wpapi/issues/349 10

The post on 31 March in that thread suggests installing and activating the ‘Application Passwords’ plugin, which I’ve now done. It also says to then follow the instructions here: https://github.com/georgestephanis/application-passwords/wiki/Basic-Authorization-Header—-Missing 102

Those instructions suggest an edit to the ‘htaccess’ file.

So I’ve intalled the ‘wp htaccess control’ plugin: https://wordpress.org/plugins/wp-htaccess-control/ 70
and edited the htaccess file as advised.
I’ve also created some application passwords for the two users.

I’m still getting the same issue when I try to POST to WordPress from POSTMAN.
Worse, now when someone visits my site (just through their browser) they are prompted to enter a username and password. My user credentials do NOT grant access. However, I am still able to log on to the Wordpress admin console, and I am still able to GET posts, comments, user details etc using the API via Postman. So it seems that somewhere along the way I have inadvertantly made passwords required just to access the site via a browser.

One other point: When I Putty onto my EC2 instance, I cannot see the htaccess file in any directory. Although I can see its content from within my admin console using the ‘wp htaccess control’ plugin.

In short, I’m bewildered, and in need of some advice. What is the ‘best practice’ way to fully enable use of the WordPress API, running on an EC2 instance?
I appreciate this might not be the ideal place to post about these issues, but I’ve not yet got definitive advice from either the WordPress forums or the AWS forums, so I’m hoping I might find some helpful across-the-board expertise here

Regards
Jamie.

Hi,

I have been able to run my Django application on AWS lightsail instance by following their tutorial. I have also been able to link my domain to the instance. However, it only supported HTTP connection.

Hence, I tried to get HTTPS connection for my domain by running the following command which automatically configures for HTTPS connection.

sudo /opt/bitnami/bncert-tool

After I ran this command, the command successfully completed its process but my Django application is not working when I entered https://mydomain.com 1 on the browser.

It seems like the command sudo /opt/bitnami/bncert-tool automatically updated the bitanmi.conf file just like below. Would there be anything to be edited to get the application running on HTTPS?

Hi. I just set up a new instance on AWS, using the latest WordPress AMI. When I try to run bncert-tool I get the following error:

Warning: The path does not seem to contain a valid Bitnami installation! Make sure you have proper access rights.

I checked a previous thread and ensured I had not used the NGINX AMI. Tried a second stance – same problem.

Tried to run the Bitnami Diagnostic and saw the same error.

I’m using bitnami on windows for one wordpress site, with a custom database. My wordpress theme is uncode. It reports that it needs a couple of php variables increasing. I’ve edited …/bitnami/php/etc/php.ini to set a few php variables, including max_input_vars = 3000 (the default was 1000). The theme recognizes this change OK, but it does a test & also reports that the number of PHP input variables actually allowed is only 1000. So something else is restricting the number of PHP variables. Could this be some security thing ? I’ve also tried putting

suhosin.post.max_vars=3001
suhosin.request.max_vars=3001

in php.ini but that didn’t help.

I do not know how to perform the changes explained in the documentation

Describe your issue as much as you can

(migrated from community.bitnami.com)

Hello,

I have finally resolved the plugin issue but:

(1) with regards to the Apache issues, there is no instruction in the documentation how to resolve these.
(2) with regards to the Connectivity issues, should ports 22, 80, and 443 be opened?
(3) with regards to the available RAM memory, which is suggested as a likely cause of Wordpress crashing. My website has been working fine for the last 2 years, and this issue only started after the recent server migration to an updated Bitnami instance. It doesn’t make sense why suddenly RAM memory is insufficient.

Is there any way to diagnose what process might be using the RAM? As it feels like there must be a system error that’s causing the excess RAM usage.

[WAMP Packaged by Bitnami 8.1.7-0] How to change the PHP version used by WAMP?

Describe your issue as much as you can

Hello,

I Installed WAMP Packaged by Bitnami 8.1.7-0, and it is working great. According to phpMyAdmin, PHP version 8.1.7 is installed.

I want to test my localhost Joomla website using PHP 7.4.29, but I cannot find any way to change the version of PHP that WAMP is using. Nor can I find any information via Google on how to do this. I was led to believe that one of the benefits of WAMP over XAMPP was that WAMP lets you change the version of PHP being used.

Any help would be appreciated!

We recently migrated to the new Bitnami Stack, and have unresolved issues since then. One of the biggest issues was our url and email http://{ip_address} and @{ip_address} did not update to https://www.questcoffee.com.au/ and @questcoffee.com.au for all locations.

We are unable to find all locations where this is still broken, but believe some of the issues are related to this.

BUT, looking at our support tool identified issues (post migration), we have a number of issues that we would like help with. One of the most significant seems to be HTTP/1.1 302 error generated nearly every second by multiple ip address in our access logs.

Unable to resolve SSL issue.

Describe your issue as much as you can

(migrated from community.bitnami.com)

Hello Bitnami Support -

Having issues revoking and renewing my SSL certificate.

Here’s what I’ve done so far:

Tried using the sudo /opt/bitnami/bncert-tool to renew, without luck.

Followed the “Manually Revoking An Existing Certificate (approach A)” using the instructions here: https://docs.bitnami.com/ibm/how-to/understand-bncert/ 7.

Revoked the certificates using sudo /opt/bitnami/letsencrypt/lego --path /opt/bitnami/letsencrypt --tls --email=EMAIL --domains=DOMAIN revoke, where I updated EMAIL and DOMAIN, obviously.

This command said something to the effect of the certificates couldn’t be revoked because they were already revoked. Good, I thought… so I tried:

Using the sudo /opt/bitnami/bncert-tool to renew, went through the process successfully.

Still an SSL error on the site.

Tried deleting the cert files in /opt/bitnami/letsencrypt/certificates, but after I did that when I tried to run sudo /opt/bitnami/bncert-tool I received this error:

Bitnami installation directory

Hi, I’m trying to run a php file that executes a python script from a webpage in an AWS Lightsail VM. The PHP executes successfully from terminal, but fails when running from the webpage with a button. Research indicates allocating permissions to the Apache user. I edited the sudoers file for this, but did not solve.

Response

Hi,

That’s not a Bitnami-related question but a coding/administration one and we do not provide this kind of support. We suggest you ask in a admin-related question like Server Fault to get more information about how to troubleshoot this error.

Hello,

I have gone through all of the SMTP configurations.

Our EC2 server sends email with SMTP information provided by AWS SES without any problem as I have tested it using a php script.

I have also tried to debug the problem in the logs of both canvas and apache2 however no luck.

Also it is so strange and I find this by luck, (it was never mentioned anywhere):
https://stackoverflow.com/questions/52380448/not-able-to-deliver-the-mail-in-canvas-lms-what-configuration-setting-i-am-miss

and I have enabled this.

Do I have to install a stmp sender like “sendemail” and configure it ? Can you point out us to find out the problem I am sure other people will benefit for this.

Here is my outgoing yml (i have also tried lots of other variations):

The support bundle file was successfully created, but the automatic upload to Bitnami servers failed. You will need to upload it to your Bitnami Support ticket manually. Please locate the following file in your file browser or in your terminal: /tmp/bitnami-lampstack-info-20211107-081349-25512.zip Exercise caution when uploading the resulting support bundle to public sites as it contains detailed diagnostic information.

[bncert-tool] All bitnami instances renew certificates at the same time, causing errors.

Describe your issue as much as you can

Hello! I'm an engineer working at Let's Encrypt, the certificate authority that Bitnami uses to issue certificates.

Recently, we've been noticing bursts of errors as tens of thousands of clients around the world try to connect all at nearly the same instant, within a few seconds of 00:00 UTC (midnight), exceeding our maximum instantaneous ability to handle those api requests.

I've been revewing logs and other data to identify the source of these bursts. They are coming from clients identifying as lego-cli, and based on some investigation of hostnames and HTTP(s) servers, appear to be running common web applications like Wordpress, and are running primarily on the major cloud providers: AWS, GCP, and Azure. Notably, I've seen the name "bitnami" reoccuring in several hostnames. All of this leads me to suspect that this spike is caused by Bitnami.

I've set up a wordpress with bitnami (a very slick experience I might add - well done!) and verified that when I run the "bncert-tool", it adds a cronjob to the bitnami user which runs lego on a "0 0 * * *" schedule.

We would greatly appreciate it if the bncert-tool could be updated to instead choose a random hour and minute for each instance's renewal cron to run. That would spread the load out more evenly, which will make your product more reliable since right now a fraction of renewals will fail due to overload. In addition, we've also asked the lego-cli upstream project to add a random delay which once tagged into a release, will also help spread load throughout the minute, since generally cron job specifications are at minute granularity only.

If this isn't an appropriate venue for this request, please feel free to direct me elsewhere, or I'm available at [email protected] if any bitnami developers would rather communicate over email about the details and request here.

Thank you in advance!

  1. Create a "Open edX packaged by Bitnami " resource in Microsoft Azure
  2. Wait till the VM is ready
  3. Connect to this host by a SSH connection to access admin page. I’m using PuTTY.

Now, I have a host at: 20.205.7.41. It seems that any login related request I send to the host is returned “403 forbidden”, both normal user and admin (I used the username & password returned from the command: $ sudo cat /home/bitnami/bitnami_credentials), even if I register a new account, then I can’t be able to log into that account.
