pointbank's Issues

Add PointBank Store - Redeem points for extra rewards

It's all well and good to earn points, but we need an SSW PointBank store to spend them in too, where you can purchase such things as...

  • SSW Merchandise
  • Extra budget for free lunch
  • Bonus day of annual leave
  • SSW Subsidised tickets to events

No mention of Tech stack in the video

The video does not propose any tech stack apart from mentioning "API's"

The tech stack choices can affect the estimation question in the free-lunch form.

This can potentially be exploited by the employer

Given that the employer can gamify the trivial task, the employer can potentially withdraw whatever the current benefits that the employee receives and then make those benefits part of the reward of the gamification.

PointBank - a source could be Github

Today people send all changes on rules to Tiago - it would be nice if they did at least one edit themselves every 2 weeks.

If SSW moved the rules from Sharepoint to Github... then any editing on rules would be on Github, so PointBank could look weekly. If you had edited a rule you would get a point and it would feed into the reward system. Maybe we look at this at annual review time.

(This would not be related to free lunch - the goal isn’t to make that harder)

More ideas? Why not go ZenDesk + automation?

The idea in principle is great, celebrate small victories.

I can see that we can tasks more rewarding for devs on following scrum, adding/editing rules/learning items and/or completing emails. But on the other hand why not use ZenDesk and celebrate completion of tasks there?

Personally I would prefer automation of unnecessary tasks and friction free system for tasks that cannot be automated, which is one of the reasons we pushed for ZenDesk. (No emails, easy reassignments, chasing is easier, better visibility, etc.)

Logo showed in presentation is not consistent with SSW

...about the logo, the concept is OK...however...

I think the font is not ideal for a web app. It's also pretty inconsistent with everything we have at SSW. The colors are OK, but I'd use a darker grey instead of black. The hand icon says a lot, it's too complex.

" if you can’t explain it to a six year old, then you don’t understand it yourself. "
Albert Einstein

It also makes it hard to apply it in small sizes and still be "readable" as a favicon for example.

So I wouldn't give it a pass.

Here are some links to help making a pontential PointBank logo:

Need more Secanrios - not just SSW's Free Lunch Email

First, I think that there has been some fantastic work designing and documenting the idea for this project.

My concern is that the problem with most SSW internal projects is that they end up solving "SSW-specific" problems and end up being less useful for anyone else.

Before building we should investigate at least one other sceanario that a non-SSW customer has and design a workflow for that. The risk is we will end up building an automated "SSW free lunch system" that noone else wants.

A source could be Sessionize

Similar to #22 (A source could be YouTube video stats), a few of our devs are doing DDD, NDC, global bootcamps, etc. Mostly they are the same people.

We should use Sessionize to encourage devs to do talks on various conferences and Sessionize has become the standardized tool for organizers to approve or reject presenters talks.
We can look at this source and make rewards if they get accepted.

Figure: From my public profile you can see my next 2 talks are the DDD Melbourne and NDC Sydney.

Apple watch integration

might be cool to have reminders for upcoming deadlines of tasks pop up in an apple watch.
also could be cool to putt things like steps and other health related things from the device as well (i.e. how much standup-desk use vs sitting)

Improving Sprint Retros

We are following the standards for doing Sprint Retro meeting.
However, we never seem to come around checking if anything has been fixed.

We should build a source that takes what we should improve and what went bad, so at the next retro, we can evaluate if we improved and if we can pat ourselves on our shoulders. :)

Reminding Message

I think it would be better if we have a auto-send message to remind user to follow up tasks.

PointBank - a source could be FitBit

Today we don’t do enough exercise - it would be nice if we got our 10,000 steps in FitBit and for that movement we got a point for it.

(This would not be related to free lunch - the goal isn’t to make that harder)

Typo in the video

In the video at 1:49 the Admin speech bubble says:

"If I spend my day chasing up questionairres, I won't get anything else done..."
This should be
"If I spend my day chasing up questionnaires, I won't get anything else done..."

A source could be YouTube video stats

At SSW we have a lot of presenters that not only present but also publish videos on YouTube.
It's also important to respond to the comments we get on the YouTube videos so that we remain engaged with the audience even after the video has been published.

Maybe we could have a "Most popular new video of the month" award to celebrate views and likes?

For example, Jason got a massive spike of views (200k+ and 60k+) but we didn't celebrate that.

PointBank - a source could be Zendesk

Today SSW’s SysAdmins use Zendesk - it would be nice if developers also used it instead of emails... ideally they would use it at least every 2 weeks.

If SSW moved from emails with To Myself to Zendesk... then tasks would be on Zendesk and PointBank would give users a point and it would feed into the reward system. Maybe we look at this at annual review time.

(This would not be related to free lunch - the goal isn’t to make that harder)

Pointbank Tagline

Hi all,

Suggest changing the tagline for the app from:

  • Bringing high interest rates to boring tasks
    To:

  • Making boring tasks easier!
My reason is that "high interest rates", while being a cute word play, may have a negative connotation, and when coupled with the word "boring", with a kind of double negative connotation, doesn't really sell the benefit as strongly or positively as possible.

Other more positive variants could be:

Make boring tasks easy and compete for rewards! (a positive call to action)
Making the mundane more meaningful (a little alliteration to help it roll off the tongue ;))
Any other ideas?
