Thx. I've found this project while looking for an alternative approach. It might work for my use case with a bit of shell scripting.

I still think this MPRIS interface must come out of the box with squeezelite, just like any other local media player.

I did some hacking on squeezelite sometime ago which was encouraging. It's easy to send commands to the server using the IR interface of slimproto (play/pause/previous/next). But for metadata, one needs to use the CLI or HTTP interface. And I'm not up to implementing that in C (I don't have the time nor the motivation).

For the record, I've written mprisqueeze as a way to work around this issue.

What it does is: start a squeezelite process in the background while exposing an MPRIS interface to control it.

It perfectly fits my needs so feel free to close the issue if you want.
