from-the-ground-up's Issues

Documentation is very lacking

New gamestages support is undocumented.
I am intensely interested in how to use this new support.
I assume the support means I can add a "stage" as a "reward" so to speak to be added to the player completing the research?
And because I tend to go into too much detail,
an example being setting tinkers lumber axes to the stage "lumberaxe" and a FTGU research completion giving the "researcher" the "lumberaxe" stage.
If that is how it works I will most definitely try adding FTGU and game stage mods to my modpack "Artifex Arcanus".

Improvements in Slots?

Hey,

I found your Mod and actually pretty liked it and using it currently in my Modpack.
At the Moment I didn't really figure out how the "late-game technology", but from that what I've seen and tested already I have to say I feel a bit restricted by the slots avaible in Idea Table and Research Table.
E.g. A Data Chip
In a Research Table.
Currently you'd be able to set 3x3 where it could be like that:

< iron>, < iron>, < iron>
< iron>, < redstone>, < iron>
< iron>, < iron>, < iron>

Tbh if you someone would like to create a bit harder realism that's pretty uncreative.
Meanwhile already with a 5x5 (maybe up to 9x9(Extreme Crafting), or even further beyond) you could make it more realistic like fit the texture to the recipe or even a real setup of (e.g.)a Data Chip.

I noticed that pretty much when I tried using adding custom ones.
Also with the Idea Table I think even 3 Slots are simply not enough, but unlike the Research Table I think the Idea Table would be with 9 Slots absolutely fine!

Another Feature I think would be usefull, is the Recipe Showing from JEI. So basically currently if an item is uncraftable because you havent discovered it yet, it'll still show up the recipe, my idea would that it'll show what'll be required to unlock it and that you can go on the single requirements what you have to do there.

Also an Idea would be that you'd have to "study" or kill some mobs that you can learn some recipes.
Why? Basically Humanity had a lot cases where we got very good idea from animals how some things worked and realised them afterwards.

After all these Ideas I actually got a question because I am not sure,
let's say you have discovered iron ingots yet, you can't obtain them, is it still possible to obtain them with Modded Machines? (e.g. Tinker's Construct Smeltery)
If yes, is there a way to remove that?

Greetings

White screen on start

Hey :) Got an strange problem when using FTGU: Minecraft starts fine, no shown Errors, but then instead of the Main Menu, I get a white screen. If I remove FTGU it's normal.

My Modlist:

For every crafting recipe you get only 1 item in the crafting table

jokish363 said:
"I get 4 planks from one log when I do 2x2 crafting, but if I craft one log in the 3x3 from crafting table I get just one. For other recipes it is similar,
for example: one paper instead of three from sugar cane
My question is this behavior intended."

[b1.2.7] Experimental version hard dependency on Immersive Engineering

I downloaded the experimental version to try out the Game Stages support, and it crashes without Immersive Engineering present (java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError: blusunrize/immersiveengineering/common/blocks/BlockIEBase at ftgumod.FTGU.postInit(FTGU.java:141)).

I can provide the full crash report if that's not enough info, but that seems to be everything relevant; it looks like that line needs to be inside the conditional immediately preceding it, although I couldn't say if any additional changes would be needed elsewhere.

Game Stages support

Have you considered adding the ability to allow research to interact with the Game Stages mod? In particular this would allow things like unlocking Tinkers Construct materials/tool types individually, or unlocking features in Waila (via the TinkerStages and Waila Stages addons respectively).

crash with jei compat

In short, i opened the research table, and the game froze so that i had to force quit it.

the error in short was:
[17:58:17] [Netty Local Client IO #0/ERROR] [FML]: SimpleChannelHandlerWrapper exception
java.lang.NoSuchMethodError: mezz.jei.Internal.getRuntime()Lmezz/jei/JeiRuntime;

Some problems in researching ideas

Ok, i have the parchment for carpentry research and the only thing i don't get is the middle block/item on the researcher. It says "block chopper" so i think it is an axe. I had a look at the java code and as it looks for me the block/item that is missing is an axe. The problem is i can first build an axe after i researched carpentry.

I use Minecraft 1.11.2 and FTGU-1.11.2-b1.1.6

FTGU does not recognize oredictionary, and fails to lock items/blocks in the 2x2 grid

The CraftTweaker does not work with ore-dictionary entries.
Also it completely fails to lock the blocks and items in CraftTweaker added technologies.
Please note however that it is only broken with regards to using ore-dictionary, and the actual blocking of items/blocks before the technology is researched.
With the exception of a lack of ore-dictionary support,
the actual addition of technologies, ideas, research, and scrambled hints all work perfectly.

[1.12.2] Automatic researches not granted at game start

Forge Version: 1.12.2-14.23.0.2517
Mod Version: 1.12.2-b1.2.4

Upon starting a new world, the Survival and Research technologies are not researched. This means that I have no recipes available to craft, and am unable to research anything. The technologies are present, and if I have cheats active I can use the /technology command to grant them to myself.

[1.11.2] World Restart Bug

Whenever you restart Minecraft or the world, you cannot open the GUIs on the Research Table and the Idea Table.

Commands for adding/removing/resetting player's technologies ?

Hi @TheRActivator,

Is it possible to create a command for "editing" player's technologies like the vanilla command /achievement, but for From the Ground Up's technologies ?

This command could be used from commands blocks (or others mods who can run console command, like CustomNpcs), for rewarding players with "unlockable" technologies added throught CraftTweaker ( By the way, thanks you for this mod and his CraftTweaker support °-° ! ).

No Global Support?

With the old Craft-tweaker support we could make a modpack and have support for ftgu in every save, now everything is tied to the save folder. Why the change and is there a way to make the mod work across all saves?

Idea Table/Research Table - Bug

For some reason when i leave the chunk and reload it while the table is placed inside i can no longer access it and when i break it i don't get the table back, just the contents i was using it in a modpack it's called "Atlantic Survival" but i'm not sure what the problem is for sure.

Please Look into this

Lack of documentation

1.12 changelog says moved away from crafttweaker to json system.
But no default jsons are generated,
and JSON page on wiki is empty/not-made.
Please actually document it or the 1.12 version is useless to pack-devs.

Half of researches not working

FTGU-1.12.2-b1.2.5
I'm checked several technologies from the sourse json from your mod and they do not work:
Refinement
Dyes
Carts
Stonemasonry

Make .json cusomization a config

From a pack makers perspective, having the modification take place in the save folder is not a very good idea. We want to customize a players experience, and not our own. Might be good for a specific map, but not so good in terms where the player makes their own world which has its own save. It would be nicer for customization if it were in the config and not the save file. This as also the reason triumph was made, because then we could have custom achievements affect every world instead of one. Also, we should be able to make our own subgroups.

CraftTweaker Integration

I would like to request CraftTweaker integration to allow the customization of the research process, and to allow pack authors and such to add unsupported recipes/crafting-processes.
For example, the "Rice Crafting Table", or various processing machines from various tech mods.

[1.11.2] Refined Storage

I assume this is an issue with any external crafting container besides the Vanilla crafting table, but in the Refined Storage crafting grid, you can craft items you haven't researched yet. I assume this is because Refined Storage is it's own crafting container. Any way for you to fix this? Thanks!

Please put it in the curse/curseforge page that FTGU is allowed in modpacks.

TheRActivator #5 (comment)
Also yes, this mod is free to use in any modpack if you give me credit in some visible way (like linking to the curseforge page)

Could you please add this to the curse/curseforge page?
The license set on it is "All Rights Reserved" and you don't sate anything about if it's allowed in modpacks else-where on the curse/curseforge page.

Research Journal

I would like to request you add the ability to share completed researches via a craftable "Research Journal".
I would suggest that it works thus.
Person A crafts journal.
All of the research Person A has completed at the time of crafting is saved via nbt to the crafted journal.
Person B uses the journal, gaining the completed researches saved to the journal.
Person B keeps any researches that they have previously completed that were not completed in Person A's journal.
I feel you should give pack makes a config option to choose whether these journals are infinite, limited-use-durability, or one-use-only.

Research menu as a GUI instead of being tied to a book item

This could be an optional replacement for the research journal.
I want to be able to access my research from a menu that I can't lose upon death. Similarly to how Antique Atlas has the option to remove its atlas item and open its map with a key binding.

Question

How Am I supposed to modify technologies, do I have to use craft tweaker still, or is there some sort of config folder? If it is the config folder, well, it does not exist in the configs, but does exist in the world save folder.

Game stuck on world loading

Whenever I load a world for the second time ftgu appears to send an invalid packet, this causes the game to hang at 0%.

Possible Code Tutorial?

Hey, me again.

Now i am dead set on using this mod. But like before, i have no idea what i am doing... at all.
This isn't exactly an issue. I would like it for some of the code from here:
https://github.com/TheRActivator/From-the-Ground-Up/wiki/CraftTweaker-Support

to be explained to me. The last issue i had was here:
#26

which involved me trying to add test pages. Now i am trying to get more technologies, adding items, adding idea and research recipes, with some scrambles.

Any help would be awesome. This mod is amazing, just not user friendly to non coders like myself.

Thanks!

Can't craft some items

Even with all research done, I can't craft notch apples or shulker boxes. Can't you make all blocks without research craftable?

1.12 default issue

The default survival is activated at the start of a new world in 1.12.2.
