PS3 Voice and Graphics Patch

For Higurashi No Naku Koro Ni - Chapter 2 Watanagashi

This repository only hosts the script files and a few voice files needed to fix bugs, check our wiki for instructions on how to install the patch!

This patch aims to combine the efforts of the ps3 voice patch and the ps3 sprites/background patch, and fill in missing voice files not covered by the original voice patch.

Installing the patch

Check our wiki.

Releases

https://github.com/07th-mod/watanagashi/releases/

This repository is in constant change. Sometimes new releases might get on hold until there is enough content to push a new patch. If the latest patch has a bug that seems to be already fixed in the repository, try downloading the master file. The master file will always have the latest files, regardless of the current release being outdated or not.

Known issues

In wata_002.txt, the scene where they are playing a game is missing a large chunk of dialog. Most likely because of obvious copyright issues. Needs retranslation to fit with the PS3 audio.

In wata_tips_01.txt, lines 474~526 are clearly different from the PS3 version. Probably because of the whole red light talk. PS3 files for this scene are S20/05/440500017 and S20/04/440400025.

In wata_004.txt, the PS3 script differs a lot from the PC version. There are dozens of new dialog lines, including voiced ones. Some voices are also missing and some lines were rewritten. This will most likely bother you if you play with japanese text.

In wata_005.txt, the scene in Angel Mort was almost completely edited in the PS3 version. Some lines won't have voices and the flow of text/voice might get weird because of that. Later scenes in this chapters were also substantially increased in the PS3 version, this content might be translated and added later.

In wata_010.txt, line 241 the dialogue said in the text and the voice file diverge. In the original text, Keiichi only asks confirmation about the hour (3:00). In the sound file, he adds "昨日に続いてか?" asking about the day before.

Some voiced lines might end early if you are a slow header or playing with auto mode. There are too many cases of split lines (PS3 and PC version share the same script, but the reading is different) to fix manually. Some extreme cases may be fixed if you take your time to open an Issue.

Legacy Voice Only scripts

Legacy voice only scripts can be found on the voice-only branch at voice-only/dev/Update (voice only)

Developing with us

Usually, older contributors are welcome to join the repository and push their own changes without supervision. However, you can also aid the development just by forking the repository and working on your own changes. After you are done, commit the changes, make a pull request and if it's good enough, the changes will be merged. Both approaches are more than welcome!

watanagashi's Issues

Missing sprites

I didn't find any missing voices in Watanagashi. On the other hand I found a few sprites used in the scripts but missing in the graphics patch. Can we add them or replace them with other sprites that we do have?

Graphics mod with Steam sprites

Unlike Onikakushi there is no Graphics mod with Steam sprites instead of PS3 sprites.

I think it should work if I use the Graphics Mod with PS3 sprites but don't replace any of the existing files. Is there anything else I should do?

GCensor branch progress

I started separating deleted dialog with GCensor flag in chapter2.
Probably progess confuse you, so I write progress in this issue.

If you want to edit script in progress, I will preferentially finish that script file until B progress.

If you help progress B, this DLL is useful.
If GMOD_DEBUG_MODE flag is 2, it automatically stop with GCensor branch in skip mode.

A.Separating and small checking(only checking crash and freeze)
B.Checking and fix completely(text flow and double quatation in English and 「」in Japanese, and sprites)
C.Finding and Adding Voice

[2017-11-08]
Progress A and B are finished. There are possibility that I failed some point.
If you find bug, I'll fix it immediately.

[2017-12-19]
Probably there are no voice that we can find in ps2 archive.
Violence scene have many deleted one, but reaming dialogs have different reason.

Missing voices at the end of chapter 6 and onwards

I've just read til the end of chapter 6, and then at the start of the new chapter, no voices play. Thereafter, i skipped onwards to see if there were any voices playing at all in chapter 7 and discovered that it was not the case. Even at the start of chapter 8, there were still no voices coming out.

Character Sprites 'Console' config bug

TL;DR: dialogue doesn't advance if the console sprites are on (remake sprites work fine). Quick fix is replacing remake sprites with console sprites in the game [files.]

I am experiencing a strange bug with the console sprites in the Watanagashi chapter, with the manual instalation of the patch. I get the same bug if I use the windows installer, but I don't get this bug in other chapters (at least not with chapter 1).
I'm linking a video that I recorded, along with some explanation of what's going on:

I start by showing the manual installation (just to make sure I did everything correctly). You can skip to 3:45, when the game opens.
After I set the Character Sprites setting to Console I open my save file and attemp to continue the game. As you can see in th video, the first line of dialogue comes up fine, but when I try to go to the next line (by clicking or with the keyboard) the arrow pointing to the right dissapears and the text that should come up simply doesn't. I try to press some buttons to no avail and I close the game.
Then, at 5:02, I set the sprites setting to Remake, to show that the remake sprites do work fine, but the bug appears again if I change it back to Console. Also, at 5:54, if I try to exit with Exit to Menu, the sprites, text box and music are gone, but I'm now stuck with the background, and I have to exit the game externally (Alt + F4).

I have found some kind of fix though.
If I go to the StreamingAssets folder of the game and copy the portrait and sprite folders from CG into the folder CGAlt (overwriting the Remake sprites with the Console sprites) I can play the game just fine with the Console sprites by selecting the Remake setting in Character Sprites (shown to work fine at 7:11 in the video).

AVG identifies auto-installer as a trojan?

To be more specific, I can download the auto-installer from any browser except Chrome, which blocks it. I downloaded it and scanned it, and AVG said it was fine. But when I ran the installer, it stopped not long after the CMD window came up and said it had detected a trojan. The file it quarantined was called something like "Trojan-gen3" or something like that.
I've installed the Onikakushi-hen and Tatarigoroshi-hen patches with zero problems and they work beautifully!
Any idea what's going on with that file? I paid $1500 for this computer, so I'm pretty paranoid about downloading anything, heheh.
Thanks!

Freezing at the middle of chapter 6

I have installed the voices only and ot worked well until around the middle of chapter 6, when at the festival preparation Shion arrives. The screen becomes black, the menu is inaccecible and only the music kepps playing. I had installed the s02, s19 and s20 folders in SE and added the Watanagashi master file to install it. I had to delete all the folder to make it work again. Can you help me install the patch correctly? I only want to add the PS3 voices, I like the Steam sprites and want to keep them. It would be very useful if you could do a voice only tutorial and patch like you did for Onikakushi. Thanks!

Chapter 6 Shrine scene - unable to continue

During the scene where Keiichi is relaxing after the shrine prep work and Shion turns up to hand a drink the screen goes dark as part of the scene but will not continue. Clicking or skipping appear to do nothing, menu does not appear, though the exit confirmation dialog will. Restarting the game does not resolve it.
Seems to be similar to the issue reported in the thread (14350291)

Github doesn't seem to like the zip with my save so: https://mega.nz/#!6JR2hAxZ!cdBZNk2ph6TvsjrQKepFZ8dPVTt0HnKdnztxPpQbMqQ

Strange censor flag

NULL, " ...This may be a strange question, but... is my old man paying you a visit?\"", GetGlobalFlag(GLinemodeSp));

I noticed this one was quite strange. The dialogue is exactly the same, except the original version says the voice is of a middle aged man. But Kimiyoshi(can't recall who that is. Maybe irrelevant) stills says my old man, which is an odd way of talking for a middle aged man.
Anyway, it feels like quite an odd change, as because of that, all the voice acting is lost(since it refers to a middle aged man). I mean, if the character is never to be seen again, I guess it doesn't matter...

What are your thoughts on that, Norgus?

Tl;dr : I find the brutal change from a girl to a middle-aged man quite strange, so I'm wondering if it matters, as I don't know if it's an irrelevant side character or not.

PS : I'll make the changes, if there are to be done.

Installer

When I use the installer it's stops here and I have to manually decide if I want to replace the file. There is some files that shouldn't get replaced

MG Sprite

I found MG Sprite in graphic mode so i changed it. Im not sure however if its the right one but i think it is.

HUD goes off the screen in fullscreen mode on non-16:9 monitors

If you fullscreen on a non-16:9 monitor, for example, the (16:10, 2880x1800, though the game treats it as 1440x900) internal display of a MacBook Pro, the main background and text letterboxes as you would expect, however the HUD (part which supplies buttons for quick save, quick load, menu, log, skip, and auto) positions itself as if the game had been zoomed in to fill the display, putting the four right-edge buttons (menu, log, skip, auto) completely offscreen. Watanagashi is the first game I noticed this on (since it's the first game I played patched) but I would guess it also happens on the other games.

Can't download the patch

When I try and download it, it gives me an error message saying it's "dangerous, so Chrome has blocked it". I also tried the manual downloads, but they all gave me a "error-forbidden". Anyone know any way to fix it?

bg_154 blurry

bg_154 is blurry, but that can be fixed by overwriting it with bg_155.

Typo in the update dialogue

image
At first I thought it was a kerning issue, but I checked the wata_004.txt files in both the Scripts and Update folder, and apparently, the official script says "garner," but the update script says "gamer." I'm assuming there's no issue with just replacing the word in the script, but just to be safe, I'm putting the updated script file here instead of replacing the one in the patch.
wata_004.txt

Spaces missing in text.

Close to the start of chapter 4 in Watanagashi, there's a part where there's missing spaces in the text.
The text is: "They also pile futons up on the altar.The Watanagashi is a festival that happens at the shrine on a sunday every June.It's very lively!"

I found the file and lines where the text occurrs:

NULL, "\"They also pile futons up on the altar.", Line_WaitForInput);
}
void dialog005()
{
ModPlayVoiceLS(4, 2, "ps3/s19/02/500200083", 256, TRUE);

Sonozaki Oryo = Nana?

Several times the old hag Oryo is referred to as "Nana" - why is that? I tried to google it but couldn't find anything.

New graphics patch

@ItaloKnox So you need the same directory structure as in 07th-mod/onikakushi#103 which you already have. Then add some more files:

  1. Add the missing kasai sprites I sent you earlier today into sprites/ directory.
  2. Download spectrum files, both PS2 and PS3.
  3. Download CG and CGAlt directories for current Wata patch.
  4. Download wata bash script from here: https://www.dropbox.com/s/3wag1gsa94vhng7/watanagashi.sh?dl=0

The structure should look like this:

watanagashi-old/
    CG/
    CGAlt/
ps3/ (Higurashi-Graphics-1080p.zip)
sprites/ (Iri's 1440p weather sprites)
    Night/
        l/
        m/
    Sunset/
        l/
        m/
    Normal/
        l/ (images from Higurashi-Portraits-1440p.7z)
        m/ (images from Higurashi-Sprites-1440p.7z)
spectrum/ (**NEW**)
    ps2/
        00/, 01/ ...
    ps3/
        s00/, s01/ ...
watanagashi.sh

Now run the script and post the errors here. Note that this time it will take significantly longer time to finish because of the spectrum files.

Post-compilation

Add the textboxes from https://github.com/07th-mod/resources/releases/download/Nipah/Higurashi-Textboxes.zip to the CG directory of the compiled patch.

Add this image into the compiled CG directory: https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/384427950478589972/407293451055529985/alphaimage.png

Now you have the whole patch. You already know the rest of the routine:

  • Throw compiled CGAlt directory to /dev/null. jwgrlrrajn will give you a better one later. He already has what he needs from me.
  • Pack the compiled CG directory and upload it.
  • Add the compiled spectrum directory to wata voice patch.
  • Get an updated DLL somewhere.

That should be everything. Remind me later that we need to add the poem.

Wrong date

wata_ep_02

OutputLine(NULL, " 昭和58年6月28日。",

Day 9 (part 1) repeats

Two people have had this issue. One just experienced it and reported it, and another commented that they had this experience earlier this year.

At the end of Day 9 part 1, the scene at t he library concludes, and then it starts back up at the beginning of the same file again. After repeating at least once, the game will continue normally. One person said they saw it repeat exactly once, and the other said at least once but could not remember the exact amount of times.

I could not reproduce this issue on a fresh install, though i unlocked everything with a hacky SetGlobalFlag(GWatanagashiDay, 999) command in my init.txt, so the state isn't exactly the same. I don't recall experiencing this when I first read with the mod in January 2018 either.

cc @orian34 @enumag

Audio / English Name Mismatch

At this line, Ooishi refers to someone named 山海. MangaGamer translates this as "Yamaumi", which doesn't match with the PS3 audio (at ps3/s20/11/440700177.ogg), which reads it as "Sankai"

There's also a kun-san mismatch here

wata_007.txt, line 3633

OutputLine(NULL, "じゃあ、……その時にも誰かが、……『消えた』?",
NULL, " So... at that time, someone else... "vanished"?", Line_WaitForInput);

This line doesn't display in game because "vanished" isn't in quotation marks.
It should either be removed or fixed. I wasn't sure which one you guys wanted, so I made this issue.

Watanagashi installer being detected as a virus

Hi. I'm having difficulty downloading the Watanagashi installer because Google Chrome views it as a virus and refuses to let me download it. I've tried to install the patch manually but have had less success than I have with the installer for the other arcs. Please get back to me as soon as possible.

After party dialogue question

I was playing through the most recent official Watanagashi release, and I got to this part in the after party where Rika says this...

There's one other place in the after party where she does this, but she doesn't make her "Pachi pachi pachi" onomatopoeia for this line, the "clap clap clap" is not in quotes to indicate speech, but it's also not "Clap clap clap" to indicate sound effects. How was this handled in the original?

Thanks!

Possible issue in chapter 7 in ADV mode

Shortly after exploring the shed/shrine with Tomitake and Co. there's this line of narration coupled with actual dialogue, and it makes it look momentarily like Mion is narrating in third person.
img_0794
Not sure if there's a better way to handle this scene, but I figured you'd want to know.

Voices only: possible missing voices

Got a report from a user that in the scene . . . where you confess to Rika that you entered the shrine via the cat metaphor, and the scene in the school where everyone is sad that the mayor is missing, there was absolutely no voices. Usually it’s just a line here or there, but there it was everything. Not sure if intentional due to a censorship mismatch or a bug.

Extra Sound in TIP "Festival's Around the Corner"

The sound for the cicadas plays throughout the TIP "Festival's Around the Corner", and another background song starts to play on top of it, making it seem like the cicada track wasn't supposed to be there. The entire TIP appears to be indoors, making it seem even more out of place.

Assembly-CSharp.dll breaks game. Update Folder breaks game

Windows 8 Machine
Followed every step in the Install Instructions TO THE LETTER on a fresh install of the game. Created voice folder, moved voices into it, moved all appropriate cg and cgalt folders, installed streaming assets update patch, installed everything according to the instructions in your guide with no liberties taken and it breaks the game to the level of not even turning on anymore, when running the .exe it won't even start the game anymore.

I narrowed it down to a file in the "managed" folder called Assembly-CSharp.dll which if you overwrite it with your patched version the game won't even start, but even if you don't transfer that file what happens is the game will load a black screen and never do anything. Then pressing alt+f4 will show the "are you sure" dialogue box and exit.

So basically if you install any of the files in the update folder or the "Managed" folder it completely breaks the game. I successfully moved all cg and voices into the folder and it does not break the game, but when installing the scripts in the update folder this is when the problem happens. Yet no one online has talked about this and the only way I even got the Onikakushi chapter to work properly is by using someone else's streaming assets folder.

Is there any way you can please upload your complete patched streaming assets folder to google drive or megaupload? Because seriously I have literally tried 50 different methods with no results other than a black screen.

Higurashi - Watanagashi freezes during a specific scene

Original Thread from Reddit

I'm playing through Watanagashi and I finished the scene [Watangashi Spoilers] (/s "where Takano takes Shion and Keiichii to show them the tools for the ritual.") After this scene, I get to the point where I meet up with Mion, Rika and Rena and Rika asks about the performance and here's where my error occurs. I'll also show you my files, the important ones.

Sorry if this is not the right subreddit to post. I was thinking of posting to the Higurashi subreddit but that's pretty dead.

EDIT: forgot to add that in the video, there's no voices because i took out the voice files per a friends method but that didn't work unless im doing it wrong...

EDIT: I tried re-applying the voice and bg patches to see if that would solve but no luck

Missing voices

I think we're missing voices s02/01/130100926 and s02/01/130100927 here. Can you check if they match the text and change the text accordingly if they don't?

Translation Meaning

NULL, "\"...If it's that good, then I guess I've gotta have some, too. Satoko's gonna eat it all if we let her.\"", GetGlobalFlag(GLinemodeSp));

This line's meaning bothers me in the context. Also, I tried to piece some kind of translation, and I think Keiichi is proposing Satoko to eat his own food, rather than him wanting to eat some. "Try me" as in eat my food too.

It felt wrong as the context clearly indicates Keiichi isn't interested in eating more, but instead is "generous" enough to give his share to Satoko(probably playing on the fact that she doesn't like pumpkin).

PS : I'll make the changes on my end if there's any to be done.

Voices problem

I installed the patch with the ps3 BG and sprites and it worked, I also installed the voices but when I go to the game the voices sound weird, like distorted and low pitch. I already repeated the steps several times but I just cant make the voices sound right

Translation error

NULL, " find out that I'm wearing women's clothing right down to the unmentionables?\"", GetGlobalFlag(GLinemodeSp));

This line says "I" when it's Rena who speaks. Probably a mistake in translation as my poor attempt to understand the original seemed to show it's indeed Rena referring to Keiichi(also, what a meaning, lol).

Can't progress after a line of dialog

Hi,

On chapter 12, I can't continue after a line of dialog. The problem seems to be at that line :

PlaySE(4, "S02/03/1303003446, 128, 64);

PlaySE(4, "S02/03/1303003446, 128, 64); should be PlaySE(4, "S02/03/130300346", 128, 64); (Wrong file name and missing ")

I tried changing the filename without success, but as I am writing this, I just noticed the missing quote, so I'll wait the game to reinstall and try again.
