mrrescue's Introduction

Mr. Rescue

Firefighting game made with LÖVE, developed by Tangram Games.

About Mr. Rescue

Mr. Rescue is an arcade styled 2d action game centered around evacuating civilians from burning buildings.

The game features fast paced fire extinguishing action, intense boss battles, a catchy soundtrack and lots of throwing people around in pseudo-randomly generated buildings.

As of version 1.02 we have added XBox 360 controller support and fullscreen modes.

How to run the game

To run Mr. Rescue you will need the awesome LÖVE framework.

You can download LÖVE for free at http://love2d.org
It only takes a minute.

Most Linux distributions also have LÖVE in their software repository.
Search for "love" or "love2d".

If you have LÖVE installed simply double-click the .love file to run the game.
If you retrieved the source code directly, just zip the whole folder and change the extension to .love.

How to play

We highly recommend checking out the ingame how-to but here’s the basics:

  • Your job is to rescue civilians from a burning building.
  • You rescue people by picking them up and throwing them out the window.
  • Equipped with a water gun you must fight your way through flames and fire sprites but remember: your job is to rescue people!
  • When being near fire your suit will accumulate heat. Collect coolants to keep it from overheating.
  • You water tank only has limited capacity. Emptying it will make you water gun overheat so watch your water usage.

mrrescue's Issues

Would you be open to having this game available on flathub.org?

Flathub is a project that tries to simplify how users install programs on linux-based systems, it's effectively a software "store" or "repo" that works on any distribution.

I've packaged the game and tested it on my system, so far it's working fine. I want to upload it to make it available for everyone, but I'd like to ask for your consent first.

I'll do all the work myself and you won't need to do anything. However, if you want we'll give you access to the flathub repository on github so that you can control how the game appears to people, publish new versions or even remove it if you so wish.

Current source code + LOVE 0.9.1 (Baby Inspector) = error

On launch I get this message:

Then when I start the game from the menu, I get this error:

The game is unplayable this way. I have got a working snap from snapcraft.io, so I'm not affected personally. But I'd like to learn more about it.

More obvious ability to select level

A couple of left / right arrows in the level selection screen, as in the How to play screen, would make it more obvious that you are expected to press the arrow keys to select a level.

My nephew (12yo) was surprised when I selected another level. He did not even try. His videogames lock additional levels until you kill a boss, so they do have a level selection screen, with scrolling disabled. He saw the left / right arrows in the How to play screen, and the rightward arrow in the main and Options screens. From the lack of arrows in the level selection screen, he inferred that additional levels would have to be unlocked first.

Copyright holder information missing

Hello,

Assets (graphics, music, text) have a license but not copyright holder information. I assume it is "Copyright (c) 2013 Tangram Games" but there might be exceptions.

Please add a copyright line to the LICENSE (or more if needed) to it is clear whom to attribute to in case of re-distribution or re-use.

On related note, I would like to suggest replacing

with

slam, AnAL and TSerial are not covered by the Mr. Resccue license. Please see the files of equivalent basename for license information. All other source code for Mr. Rescue is licensed under the zlib licence included below.

so packagers unfamiliar with the libraries know immediately where to look.

Thanks!

Crash when changing fullscreen mode

Not sure how to trigger the crash but I had one when in the settings and changing fullscreen, saying the game called toggleFullscreen which does not exists.
I did not get the crash again when retrying to change fullscreen mode.

Maybe it was linked to having a config file from a previous version of mrrescue or something.

But there is indeed a call to toggleFullscreen in options.lua which does not seem to exists.

You can jump while dead

You are able to jump while play dying animation due to reuse of variable and Player:action/Player:jump not checking player state.

no readme.md to know what the game is about.

Hi all,
Just came to know the game from the debian-devel-games archive mailing list. There seems to be no mention about what the game is about. Perhaps a README.md file maybe good as it can tell what the game is about.

The README could also have instructions as to how to package it (zip it) so it's .love file and can be played via the love interpretor.

No control over keyboard

Manjaro Linux 3.18.20-1
Microsoft Wireless Desktop 800
mrrescue source code cloned with git

When I start up the game, just after the main menu comes up, the keyboard seems to be possessed and the left arrow keep rolling up non-stop forever.

This is the situation ( i made a GIF )

http://fat.gfycat.com/LivelyCostlyDoe.gif

When I unplug the keyboard It stops rolling but I tried different USB ports, with no luck, same result, keep rolling.

EDIT: As a bug test comparison, I also tried to run Sienna and worked perfectly, no problem at all. So, maybe the problem is up to Mr. Rescue.

Upgrade 0.10

Please upgrade Mr Rescue to Love 0.10 so I can upgrade the Debian package. It appears you have a pull request with some patches for this. I assume they'll need proper testing to ensure those minor changes are all that's needed.
