Hi people, my first time over here on the scribusproject account so a bit confused as to the goings on. and really that marks the centre of this issue. Making sure other people know what goes on.

Not really a C coder myself, but I do collaborate on quite a large python project on Github, matplotlib, with 30 core developers including now myself and almost 400 contributors, so if I can help a bit let me know. I love scribus and I finally start to see it coming of age, finding I can use it more and more.

• The majority of the Translation files are *.ts How does this impact workflow ?
• Right now the Scribus transifex URL is https://www.transifex.com/projects/p/Scribus_140/ reflecting Scribus v1.4 Should we change this to a more generic URL since it's the source files that indicates the version? If for each version we need to change the URL and thus most likely breaking that link it's not an intelligent idea.
• Right now there are 2 older source files on Transifex. What happens to them when I upload the 1.5 source file version?

I'd like to include in a Lilypond render-frame a file that is relative to the Scribus document. However, the information about this is apparently not forwarded at all.

I propose adding a variable $scribus_doc_dir$ that would allow me to change the Lilypond call to lilypond --pdf -I$scribus_doc_dir$.

I see few places where it is written “Open Type” with a space (git grep "Open Type"), it should be changed to “OpenType” or just dropped (e.g. “Font Features” is enough, no need for OpenType here).

I'd like some help to integrate https://github.com/berteh/ScribusGenerator/ script in the next release of Scribus.

This script is used to generate SLA and PDFs from a Scribus "template" file and a spreadsheet (csv) data file. It is compatible with 1.4.5 and 1.5.2, works from within scribus (GUI) or from command line (CLI), has been tested and improved for quite some time now, and various users have appreciated its usefulness.

What is the best way to get released in Scribus? Should I just put a PR here... or discuss the idea elsewhere first? ... and is there any mechanism planned to ease the update of scripts within Scribus?

Create Regression tests for important functions in Scribus. Ex. PDF export.

Currently, I'm experimenting with a Qt GUI testing suite called Squish. It's proprietary software created by Froglogic. I'm using the evaluation version.
Running in to issues with Scribus correctly recognizing Qt5.5

Currently, we have:

• The "svn" branch that get's automtically updated from the scribus' svn server.
• The "master" branch that is manually kept in sync with the "svn" branch. This branch is where pull requests from the forks will be committed to 'master' after review.

We need to find a good workflow that allows us to keep the "master" in sync with the commits with the team.

The issues that should be considered:

• conflicts that happen when a patch from "master" is also applied -- with small changes -- into the svn "trunk".
• each patch that gets into "master" (on github) will have also to be manually uploaded to the bug tracker and we will have to wait (potentially for a long time) before they are applied "upstream".

As long as we have not pulled anything into master yet, we can use the simple workflow described by sarath:

In order to facilitate more efficient testing of patches for the Scribus community we suggest an automated script that will streamline sending a PR request to the repo to test the patch.
The script should:

1. accept input of a Scribus MantisBT issue url (example url)
2. grab the .patch file (not sure this is even possible)
3. implement patch locally
4. submit as a PR to scribusproject/scribus for testing

How are Scribus documents supposed to look on Linux? I could not find an official icon, so I abused the OS X .icns and converted it to .png using

Possible idea:
Dissect this rotting Scribus SVN patch and start submitting doc patches to SVN from it.

I think it's essential to Scribus to give support to mixed inks. A mixed ink is a blend of two screen tints. For example, let's think we have to print a book with two inks, the CMYK black and a spot color, defined by some Pantone P. So we'll define this color as a new one resulting of blending a screen tint of black in a 50% with a screen tint of P in a 25%. This new ink, of course, won't create any new separation different from Black and P.

InDesign includes an interesting feature regarding this, that's the automatic creation of a set of mixed inks, where you set a starting and ending percentage for both inks and a couple of increment steps. For example you start Black in 55% and P in 10% and you set an ending of 90% and 15% and you set increments of 5% in Black and 1% in P. At the very end you get all the permutations. I think it'd be clever to replicate this feature somehow in Scribus.

I’ve seen the recent release of Scribus 1.5.3. :)

One question first: I’ve seen the PGP key has changed from the one of Peter Linnell to one for the Scribus Team, but can’t find any info on scribus.net about this. Also, this new key is not signed by Peter Linnell one. Is that normal?

One (and a half) comment then: the documentation (wrong link here https://www.scribus.net/scribus-1-5-3-released/ but I guessed https://wiki.scribus.net/canvas/1.5.3_Release) says harfbuzz and icu are now needed, but it should be more precise I think and tell that harfbuzz-icu is required (this is a different package and generally depends on the previous two btw). ;)

One problem finally: when building, PoDoFo detection fails but I’m not sure why. Is that an issue on Scribus side or on my distro side?

It would be handy to be able to import Markdown-formatted text into a Scribus document. Markdown is lightweight and well supported by several libraries.

There are several different variations to Markdown. For maximum compatibility Scribus would ideally support:

• CommonMark Spec which is a more regorously defined version of
  the original Markdown specification.
• GitHub Flavored Markdown for table support, etc.
• MultiMarkdown for document metadata, footnotes, etc.
• MarkdownExtra definition lists and other nice things.

The above commonly used Markdown extensions should cover a lot of use cases.

It seems that make install is often broken (missing to add files, or remove dropped files from cmake mostly), so I think Travis build better try to catch that.

Using scribus now is vey difficult and time consuming because of the dialog which don't offer instant preview. Why don't devs get rid of that feature?

Not sure how hard it would be to fix this and at which point backporting to 1.5.2 could be done, but if a simple patch could be provided for 1.5.2 to be built against Qt that would be awesome.

When building from source or through a package mananger:

• Make test results uniform
  • Choose either: Poppler Library Found OK or Found Poppler Library
• Make cmake tests support colorful output on all platforms (example showing no colors)
• All dependency tests need to list where the dependencies were found to help folks trouble shoot better. An example of a somewhat ideal test is poppler (reference) see below:

the new scripter is compiling again, but crashes on boot.

the reason is probably that it has to be ported to pyqt5 (and then also to python3) to be compatible with scribus' move to qt5.

i have created a scripter branch and i propose that we discuss implementation details and issues in this ticket / issue tracker.

When using the automatic guide creator in the guide manager, I think it would be more intuitive if you input the number of columns or rows you need instead of the number of guides. (For example, to create a 12 column layout you have to input 11 guides right now).

The duotone support in Scribus only works with CMYK colors. If you preview for printing a page containing an image with a duotone filter done with a spot color the separation related to this ink appears empty while the separations regarding the CMYK components appear printed. This can be considered a buggy behaviour because it's misleading for the final user that sees a proper duotone image in the document, not correspondent to a real duotone image.

Instead, they are reset to 12dp and black when closing and opening the document again.

Thanks a lot for the capable guys behind Arabic support. However, the spell checking for Arabic seems to be broken. Attached is a screenshot. The text entered is:

Hunspell checks it properly so I guess scribus hunspell plugin is broken somehow mostly with regards to spaces or word splitting.

Hi, this is more a request than a problem, although perhaps for some people it is.
Appimage is not integrated into the linuxmint system 18.2. In some appimages at the time of making the application executable, the application asked if you would like integrate it into the system, but I see that it does not happen now. Nor the official version of krita. Could you make it possible in any way?
When you have many appimage not integrated in the system, it gets some tedious fill the desktop with shortcuts

For the final user it would be very useful to preview overprinted elements in the document. When working with many of them, the impossibility of previewing them is prone to errors.
A workaround is to use multiply blend mode until the generation of the PDF. Maybe that workaround is a base for a possible solution using some kind of a 'fake blend mode' that is removed in the pre-press process.
