Back when the main lights illuminated the environment (v37 or 36?) user defined flares (with the "u" tag) also illuminated the environment, but they were extremely dim and only cast a white light regardless of the color of the flare texture being used.
Another thing I noticed back then was that the light cast from the signals was always yellow, the brakes always red, the reverse lights always white, and the "frontlights" always white (facing forward) and red (facing rearward).

I had hoped someday the light color emitted could be derived from the color of the flare texture used, and the brightness based on the size of the flare. But once I learned how flares worked, I thought maybe the system could be similar to beacons, where we could define the color and brightness of the light emitted by individual flares?
Additionally, it would be cool if materialflares could also cast light, or at least "glow" again (this feature predates me).

Perhaps this deserves it's own bug/ feature request ticket?

Yes, it does :)

Actually, i think this is related to the new terrain system, because if you spawn on a mesh, you'll see that the lights are working correctly. (I think so)

I've read a bit more about ogre and the terrain system itself doesn't support more than 1 light (which is the sun) I found a Material generator that supports up to 8 lights but then they aren't directional.. I think this won't come with 0.4.5
What do you think guys? @only-a-ptr @Aperion @Hiradur

@Max98 TBH I don't know much about lights in OGRE. Go ahead and experiment!

The original "Flares" section will light meshes with pssm enabled still, it's flares2 that won't illuminate anything.
