git-gui crashes on mac os sierra

After update to Mac OS X (Sierra)

git-gui craches with an error:

Does anybody have the same problem and a solution for this?
The current version of Tk is 8.5

ssh askpass prompt

The fallback ssh askpass prompt for the username entry appears as asterisks. I'm wondering if we can change that to only appear for the password entry. this just adds to the usability a tiny bit, as I occasionally fat finger my username sometimes 😅
