branding's Issues

[openSUSE] Create script that scales GRUB based on framebuffer resolution

/sys/devices/platform/efi-framebuffer.0/height and /sys/devices/platform/efi-framebuffer.0/width define height and width of the screen when in grub-efi (there exist device like this on bios, but I don't remember what it is). Based on that it's possible to write script that scales grub to sizes that are respecting screen resolution post install on system.

Likewise it would be nice to write clever enough script that is able to fit stuff on horizontal and vertical screen resolution (where boot menu on for example phone is almost full width and isn't like that on PC).

openSUSE Leap 15.5 wallpaper refresh

A tracker for the effort recently briefed on Community meeting https://etherpad.opensuse.org/p/weeklymeeting20211207
SUSE Branding team would help us to make wallpapers with SLES look and feel.

The topic of a new background was for the first time discussed I believe in 15.2, I think 15.4 based on SLES 15 SP4 which is a feature release could deliver such a welcome change to our desktop users.

Expectation is to have backgrounds in Leap 15.4 prior Feb 23rd which is the date when we'd like to have a Leap 15.4 Beta build done. https://en.opensuse.org/openSUSE:Roadmap

Missing branch for Factory

I have a small fix for the YaST Qt styling and I'd like to open a PR, however there is no branch for Factory, I cannot create a PR against a non-existing branch.

Leap 16 and Factory abstract wallpaper

This is for a tracking of work on the refresh of Factory (TW + MicroOS) wallpapers as well as background for ALP.
5k version shoud be a mandatory requirement, we seemed to have issue wit this in the past. See #116

Libreoffice branding

Has been a topic during mailing threads, we need branding for LibreOffice. It would need to replicate what we already do for the majority of branding, some dark blue backgrounds with white/green/cyan elements throughout.

JPEG quality setting insanely high (100)

The quality setting has changed from 95 to 100 here:
8513661

Even reducing the quality to 99 reduces the image size by about 50%, which is a significant reduction, as the 5K wallpaper alone is 3.2 MByte.

There is no apparent visual loss going to 99...95, and even 100 is lossy. As currently 2x2 color subsampling is applied, using a quality of 95 and 1x1 (i.e. no) color subsampling results in better quality (no color fringes) and smaller images.

Limesurvey fruity_openSUSE theme is not working well in darkmode

Hello

I did use the Fruity_openSUSE theme and the enforced green font isn't ideal on Dark theme.

I think it would be the best to leave font on automatic color or adapt it more to the bootswatch theme which uses higher constract in between font and background.

openSUSE Brand Logo refresh

While Geeko is great, it has some issues:

  • Scalability of even buttons is poor, look at favicons of software-o-o and wiki
  • Logo in full form is not very readable in small sizes too (even 48x48 is hard to recognize)
  • Cross-branding issues with SUSE, there is still confusion about openSUSE vs SUSE (not just a logo issue)
  • Logo without text needs to be able to represent the brand (Geeko represents two identities in the case when we are unable to use openSUSE/SUSE green to differentiate or text at very low sizes)

So what are requirements for a logo?

  • Geeko (well, chameleon, you know)
  • Low detail with high recognizability (so it is well recognizable at 16x16)
  • Usage of the current colour scheme (but a monochrome logo, not to face the same issues as Fedora)
  • Logo close to 1x1, so we don't have to separate identity provided by main logo and buttons as we do currently (obviously assumed here that "openSUSE" text is gonna be a detachable part from the main body of the logo, just logo has to be 1x1, not logo + text)

Discussion prompted by excellent suggestions of Debian, Fedora and CentOS communities considering changes to their respective logos
