Well, I bet the package you've removed was not the driver.

This is the constant source of confusion, unfortunately: there is the huawei_wmi driver (that you no longer need to install separately, and then there is the package (available in matebook-applet repository) called huawei-wmi that contains the Huawei-WMI helper, a set of systemd and udev magic that handles the ownership and access rights for the endpoints that huawei_wmi driver exposes. My bet is you removed that.

# apt install huawei-wmi

, reboot, and you should be good to go.

Let me check your suggestions. Not that I'm running Arch (not debian), and that the package I removed was huawei-wmi-dkms, which installs the kernel modules in https://aur.archlinux.org/packages/huawei-wmi-dkms.

Oh gosh, I should've read the docs better. My bad. Will close in a second.

Glad you've sorted it out. I'm not sure how fellow Archers go about that helper stuff, but looks like it can be done on Arch, too. :)

Yeah, just following the generic instructions worked fine for me. Thanks!
