That means the code can't find the IndexDirectory (the SOLR index built by CLAVIN that our code uses as the database of all places in the world). There are two ways this gets created:

  1. Docker download (recommended)
If you have deployed via the Docker setup, then the install script downloads a prebuilt index we have created. You can make sure the download worked by entering your container and making sure there is a directory with loads of files at /etc/cliff2/IndexDirectory.

  2. From source
If you are deploying from this repo of source code, then you need to follow the instructions to download and build CLAVIN. Their instructions build the index for you. Once this is built, you need to make sure it is being loaded correctly by the code. Our README notes that you can set the INDEX_PATH environment variable to point at the IndexDirectory (and make sure the permissions are set so it can be read).

Actually it looks like I got the Dockerfile wrong! I'll push a fix to the issue in the cliff-docker repo shortly.

Try the fix I pushed on that issue. I'll close this one and you can comment on that issue, because I think this is related to the Docker setup, not the CLIFF code itself.
