Yep - the majority of properties (like `featureCode) are returned directly from the underlying GeoNames.org database we rely on. Their site has a list of what all the feature codes mean.

Ok thanks. One more question about the API, what's the difference between "mentions" and focus objects? I'm guessing "mentions" contains a list of all the places that are mentioned in the input source but not sure what "focus" object means?

You've got it right. The mentions
are all geographic entities detected, disambiguated via our HeuristicDisambiguationStrategy
. The focus
is the place we think the article is about, based mostly on frequency of mention. This is documented in more depth in our academic paper and in the FrequencyOfMentionFocusStrategy
.
