Connection timeout is the maximum time allowed to connect to the server. SocketTimeout is the timeout for every request sent to the server.

And what is the life-cycle of connection and requests? If I use Unirest.post(URL).field("txt", text).asJson(); with different txt-parameters, but with the same URL, will the connection time be zero for second and further requests? If so, then how long does Unirest keep the connection with particular server?

Unirest starts a new connection to the server on every request.
