How to add favicon to this theme?

I am not able to get the favicon thing for this theme. I tried everything but it doesn't work. How this can be achieved? A solution is highly appreciated 😊

How do I add a new post in knitted in R blogdown?

I am able to see a folder called post in the content folder and I can knit the example .Rmd file there and display it in a browser. However, I am unable to link to the post in the menu. When I add:

[[main]] name = "Posts" url = "post" weight = 6

to menus.en.toml I see a link called "Posts" in the menu bar but when I click on it I get a 404 page not found error. How can I incorporate .html files knitted in blogdown into the site?

Adding sidebar widget

I'm using this theme for weeks, I'm quite impressed with the style, options, and also support for this theme.
The only missing this is sidebar. I tried to combine sidebar from the MainRoad theme, it is working but everything else is messing up.
Is there any way I can add a custom sidebar without messing with anything?
I want to add a recent post, category, tags, etc in this widget
I really want this to work on my blog website.
Thank you

Image slider dots are not centered due to user agent stylesheet

The slick-dots slider uses ul elements under the hood which have a padding-inline-start set by default on Chrome/Safari which means that the dots are not centered below the image. This can be fixed by adding either padding: 0; or padding-inline-start: 0; to _main.scss here:

https://github.com/themefisher/bigspring-light/blob/b60eba29d738767fbcf6086ffc62768c3ac5f6dd/assets/scss/templates/_main.scss#L321-L324

becomes:

.slick-dots {
  text-align: center;
  margin-top: 20px;
  padding-inline-start: 0;

Issue creating new normal page

Hi - I am not clear how to create a new 'normal' page. The docs here:
https://docs.gethugothemes.com/guide/#maintain-page

Suggest:
If you want to make a copy of privacy page, then you need to duplicate 2 files. The first one is content. Duplicate the privacy page folder from the content folder with _index.md file in it. Then change the folder name to your new page name (i.e. terms-conditions). Now you have your content ready, it’s time to duplicate the structure or the markup for this new page. Go to layouts folder and also duplicate the same page folder here, in our stage, it’s privacy page. And give the same name that you give the content folder (i.e. terms-conditions). Now you have successfully duplicate a page.

But this theme doesn't have a privacy folder in _layouts:
https://github.com/themefisher/bigspring-light/tree/master/layouts

Also - if the above instructions were correct does this really mean you are forced to duplicate the same layout code for pages with identical layout?

Also - the bigspring docs are not much more clear IMHO:
https://docs.gethugothemes.com/bigspring/create-page/

I will likely purchase this theme if I can get a better handle on how to use it.

How to add quora pixel and google analytics?

I am trying to add quora pixel on this hugo theme with forestry. I am unable to do so because of less editing options available. is there any way to add quora pixel? Also i cant find any option to add google analytics.

Adjust margins of blog posts?

Is there a way to adjust the default margins of blog posts? I have some graphs that I would like to display across most of the width of the page.

Hamburger no response and regex error

Hi community, I'm using the bigspring theme with a very simple config. Encountered 2 problems:

  1. There are some Regex related error in the console
image
  1. Not sure if related to the issue above. The hamburger (stack of 3 lines button) for expanding navbar on narrow screen (mobile) has no response.

I tried to update the submodule using the latest master branch but still getting the issue. Does anyone got similar issue? Appreciate it!

For reference:
here's the website: https://www.ntuadf.org/
and this is the repo for: https://github.com/ntuadf/ntuadf.github.io/tree/master

ERROR when run hugo comand

Usage of hugo twitter_cards.html template overrides Twitter Card meta data in head.html

In head.html the twitter:something meta data is defined but afterwards the Hugo twitter_cards.html template is imported, which overrides whatever was set above. This can be seen in the output html, where there are multiple occurrences of e.g. the twitter:title or twitter:image tags.

Workaround:
Remove L59 in head.html

https://github.com/themefisher/bigspring-light/blob/20e45e2abbeede15e9f8eb819be5373004e17d0a/layouts/partials/head.html#L59

Cached partial for header.html breaks language drop down

The language drop-down always contains the current URL and the corresponding URLs for other languages. This means that header.html needs to be rebuilt for every page. This works fine during development but in production builds partialCached is used, which means that header.html gets built once and then used on all pages which causes the drop-down to point to the same URL on all pages.

So L27:
https://github.com/themefisher/bigspring-light/blob/2ac514278034bedfb863f8d4073308f5be65bcdd/layouts/_default/baseof.html#L25-L31

should be changed to:

{{ partial "header.html" . }}

How to include custom CSS?

Adding a file assets/scss/style.scss in the project dir seems to use only that file and the existing CSS of the theme is ignored.

How exactly do I add a custom CSS to the extisting CSS without overwriting it?

Thank you.

gethugothemes link for download not working

Hi everyone!
The link to download the bigspring hugo theme on gethugothemes.com is not working. It leads to a 404 page.

Please have a look at this if you can!

Best,
Thomas

List page

I'm new to Hugo (and code in general) and I can't figure out how to create list pages (like "Blog" in the demo). Sure, I can use exampleSite and edit it but I want to have more than one list page. Neither creating _index.md nor going to the subfolder directory result in a list page.

The template won't deploy to Netlify

I am a premium user and I downloaded this template edited the contents locally and uploaded it to Gitlab .

However when deploying to Forestry you don't get the config.toml file on the left side bar and the build cmd fails on Netlify.

Please advise

Algolia Search Help

I have created a new project with the above theme. And I have followed the complete process given in the below link to add Algolia Search to my site:

https://forestry.io/blog/search-with-algolia-in-hugo/

But the rebuild command does not generate the algolia.json in the root. Because of this I am not able to proceed further. The site works fime in all other aspects. Any help please!! Thanks.

New post cannot be added

hugo new blog/new-post.md

cannot be added in localhost

Error: module "bigspring" not found; either add it as a Hugo Module or store it in "C:\Hugo\Sites\bigspring\exampleSite\themes".: module does not exist

Generated site is extremely sluggish and menu list bug on mobile view.

I have been trying this theme, both locally but also the demo site provided by gohugo (https://themes.gohugo.io//theme/bigspring-hugo-startup-theme/) as the one linked in this repository returns a 404 (https://demo.themefisher.com/bigspring-hugo/). The design is really nice, but the site is so sluggish to the point it is unusable. I first thought I was having problems with my internet connection, but that is not the case. Indeed I reproduced it simply by building the exampleSite locally.

Moving from one page to another takes several seconds, sometimes on the order of tens of seconds. It really feels as it is getting frozen every time an action is performed. I guess there might be some stuff fundamentally broken in the way it is rendering each thing, or maybe heavy remote assets loaded every time. Indeed, when trying to navigate through it, even Firefox displays me the yellow warning banner with message "A website is slowing down your browser. Stop it or wait?".

Another thing I noticed is that the menu button on mobile version (the three lines to show menu) has a bug that it dos not collapse once it has been expanded once. Whenever you click again on it (and after waiting, again, several seconds) if it was already expanded, it just flashes expanding again, not collapsing.

I am not familiar with hugo themes internals, but if there is any more information you would like me to provide, just let me know.

Differences in h1 between homepage and site pages

On the homepage the main heading <h1> has a different style than on the other site pages.
Compared to the homepage. the h1 attribute has the class display-3 attached on the site pages.

<section class="section pb-0">
  <div class="container text-center">
    <h1 class="display-3">{{ .Title | markdownify }}</h1>
    {{ with .Params.subtitle }}
    <p>{{ . | markdownify }}</p>
    {{ end }}
  </div>
</section>

Is this by purpose or are you willing to accept a pull request to make the headings look the same?

Firebase Deployment Error

Hi,
There is a problem with bigspring and Firebase hosting.
The home page looks ok, but all the other pages are without css loaded and in the console there are the errors bellow:

Uncaught SyntaxError: Unexpected token '<' slick.min.js:1 Uncaught SyntaxError: Unexpected token '<' script.min.js:1 Uncaught TypeError: $(...).slick is not a function at script.min.js:1 at script.min.js:1 (anonymous) @ script.min.js:1 (anonymous) @ script.min.js:1

Locally everything works ok. Thanks in advance!

Error during set up

After cloning repo I followed all the steps but when I ran hugo server --themesDir ../.. I keep getting error like stated below
render of "page" failed: execute of template failed: template: _default/single.html:19:4: executing "_default/single.html" at <partial "style.html" .>: error calling partial:

Can't change colors.

I modified variables light and primary_collor in file themes/bigspring-light/config.toml but nothing has changed. Any idea what can be wrong?

Blog post with no picture?

Hello!

When I try to do a blog post without a picture, the theme gives me two titles (a little one and a big one). How can have the blog post with just one title? Thanks...

Double Title

List remaining featured posts

The layouts/_default/list.html file should list all posts but is only listing the first featured post and the regular posts.
The remaining featured posts should also be listed.

Dynamically Show/Hide Bottom navigation & social buttons

Within the footer of the Page, there are tree navigations:

  • Company
  • Product
  • Support

Through editing the config.toml it's possible to add/remove links within all of the three navigations. How ever, if a navigation as no link at all the expected behaviour would be, that the navigation(-heading) disappears completely.

Same is true for the social buttons. Here the whole social div should disappear, if all social links are removed from the configuration.

{{ with site.Params.variables }} in styles.scss throws an error on save

Upon trying to save anything in this file i get this error

project\themes\bigspring\assets\scss\style.scss:

`(postcss) CssSyntaxError Unknown word (2:4)
1 | // Color Variables

2 | {{ with site.Params.variables }}
| ^
3 | $primary-color: {{.primary_color | default "#0AA8A7"}};
4 | $text-color: {{.text_color | default "#777"}};
5 | $text-color-dark: {{.text_color_dark | default "#222"}};`

thanks for the help
