This asymmetrical design surprised me a little. Why not include the for loop, such as in the example below:

for _ in range(optimizer.population_size):
x = optimizer.ask()

directly in the ask() function and return a list of solutions, just like function tell() takes a list of scores?

This could potentially allow for parallel processing in ask().

Thank you for the comment. You are right. At that time, I hadn't come up with a way to realize mirrored sampling (used in CR-FM-NES) with an ask-and-tell interface, so I tried to include everything in optimize(). But now that I've figured out how to do it, I think I can provide the mirrored sampling with the usual ask-and-tell interface, as shown above.
