Should I just use const cast? It feels that I am doing a bad praxis by doing the const cast
It is a bad praxis, but not super bad. That's why DTO object exist. BUT, for this release, leave it like this, do not spend too much time using DTOs. Kudos to you for "feeling" it was not a good practice.

@xGauss05 this should work (const cast is no casting from const to non const, but also from types)
const_cast<char*>(vertex_data)
