There are no settings for accounts possible. Only the general settings tab is visible. Se the screen print below.

During an archive of an email account, if Inbox has several sub-folders than it will archive messages for the sub-folders, but main folders like inbox, sent etc messages will disappear. Due to the archive setup; it will try to archive messages, but these messages are not there under archived folders. I use the method to have the same structure in archives by month and each month I'm missing emails from Inbox folder. Some sent items that are archived are missing as well. Initially I thought this may be on my system, or the setup of my mail accounts, but now I'm learning of it from some of my users.

It would be nice to have this options:

 - delay: time in minutes after startup, before autoarchivereloaded begins to work
 - interval: in days, so that I can say only archive every 14 days
 - popup: to ask when delay and interval saying it's time to archive, that archive starts only after confirming the popup

I have configured AutoarchiveReloaded on my Thunderbird install. I have configured the account settings in both Copies & Folders and in the AutoArchive settings. All boxes are checked and are setup for either 270 or 360 days. I also flagged this to run the archiving on startup. This does nothing as does clicking 'ArchiveNow' on the Tools menu. below is the log from startup and a manual attempt at archiving.Fro some reason my email account is being ignored.

my IMAP accounts grew over years. More as 40GB are now online. That's maybe the problem. Usually I'm using Apple Mail, but Thunderbird in combination with your tool looks like a perfect match for my archiving problem. Archived mails need to be stored separated by year and keeping the folder structure. I used 1825 days as the date for the archive. Two accounts on two different server systems. Both are using dovecot as server backend. Connected by GigaBit LAN.

Only one account has been configured every time I try to use the add on. With both accounts I'm coming to the same result. AutoArchiving is moving 5 to 10 folders and then nothing happens anymore. You need to quit Thunderbird completely and start AutoArchiving again. Another 5 to 10 folders will be moved ... and so on. Not a way you like to move 40GB data. ;) Any idea?

Hi @Brummolix, in bug 1606584 we've (reluctantly) decided to change the list of folders in an account from a flat list to a hierarchy. As you're one of the very few people using this API, I thought I'd reach out.

You'll probably need to make a change to get a flat list back, but you can do it in a backwards-compatible way:

I'm currently running Thunderbird 24.3.0 on Ubuntu 13.10.

Since, on my computer, v0.9.4 (currently on AMO) does (seem to) succeed in archiving anything, and since this version does minimal or no logging, I gave v0.9.5 alpha2 a try.

The (unprivileged) user running Thunderbird has unrestricted write access to the (users' local) profile directory. However, v0.9.5 alpha2, while initially creating a log file, fails to carry out consecutive writes to it due to very weird permissions it sets:

Archiving e-mails also fails as a result of this. The console shows how AutoarchiveReloaded iterates over my accounts and their folders, it also detects that it needs to archive some e-mails, but it does not succeed in actually doing so - every iteration causes the above error message to be written to the error console.

However, after shutting down Thunderbird, waiting for it to fully exit, fixing permissions (chmod 600 AutoarchiveReloadedLog.txt) and restarting Thunderbird, the extension works properly and does a great job.

Great tool! Helped me a lot to do my "spring cleaning" today.

One wish:
Apart from the 4 different timescales (unread, starred, tagged, other), I would like to keep my own "sent" emails longer than my inbox emails - so please consider to introduce a 5th category "sent".

[ Or ... perhaps you can combine that with a more general extension: "Folders which have XYZ in their name", and (then I would type "Sent" there, and choose 1096 days there, but other) users can recycle the same new option for their different purposes. Just an idea. ]

The documentation mentions "archive on keywords".
In the settings there is an option "Archive tagged (with keywords) "

But I find no settings regarding this mythical keyword. And also i find no explenation in the documentation.

Expected:

• or: Description on documentation on how this setting works

Have defined
"Archiviere alle anderen Nachrichten älter als 364 Tage"
as the only setting.

Error-Log shows checking of the folders but no message was detected.
But there a lot of message older than 364 days...

I'm accessing my (large) IMAP account from several clients, for convenience and redundancy matters.
Archiving older emails on one of these client devices (say, client X) to local folders removes them from the IMAP server. As main consequence only IMAP client X can access all emails (including the archived ones) but all other clients have an incomplete view. This is no viable solution for me.

A "copy" option instead of "archive" (potentially as a check-box: "leave messages on server") could solve this issue: All client devices but X can be configured to copy old emails to local archive folders (e.g., messages older than 365 days). Finally, client X - the last one to run - does an archive that deletes the copied messages.

Obviously this complicates the archiving process substantially, as the archiving add-on must keep track of already archived messages to skip potential duplicates on copy: the archive add-on may be run a second time on a specific client A and find emails that have been copied already (to local folders on client A) but not deleted by the archive process that is run by client X only. So the downside of this feature is a kind of mandatory statefulness that likely may result in increased complexity, slower operation and an increased likelihood of unexpected cases. However, it's feasible - the Awesome AutoArchive TB add-on included all the needed functionality and did a great job but unfortunately is no longer maintained/updated (incompatible with TB 60/63+).

I've installed autoarchive on thunderbird 78.6.

Installation seems OK:

• in the add-ons manager tab, I see the plugin,
• in the main toolbar, I have a button "autoarchive..." and if I click on it, I can see a warning message about imap and can click OK

BUT: I don't have access to the settings menu anywhere. I looked in the humburger button next to autoarchive one in bar, nothing. Nothing in tools menu; nothing anywhere I thought about (see screens).

Also: when I click on the "autoarchive" button, I get an error in the console log: "browser is null".

I tried to reinstall plugin.
Is it some incompatibility problem? Thanks for any help.

Hi, on one of my machines (TB 68.4.1 - Ubuntu), AAR 1.0.0.3 cannot init the addon's settings page, I get an exception in options.js
line 176 : const accounts = await browser.accounts.list();

The exception is just "An unexpected error occured" which is NOT very helpful.
I would love to debug further but for some reason all TB freezes when I add a breakpoint anywhere in options.js which makes debugging almost impossible.

The result is a settings page with no tab for any account.

AAR was operational with the same TB profile exactly one year ago, but since then both TB and AAR have of course been updated.

If I click on AutoArchive... the status or progress is not shown anywhere, is it possible to see it somewhere. Even error log dialog show only sporadically anything about status. So i am not sure when the archiving process stops

After the initial setup, I only got it to do something after turning on "extended logging" in the preferences.

The attempts before, resulted in this error message:

I have some mail that I keep as a reference, and even if they are really old, I dont want them to be archived.
It could be interesting to have an option to exclude from the archival process mails with a certain tag or within specific folders.
Is this possible?

As issue #16, I face the same issue that the AutoarchiveReloaded (v 0.9.9.5) menu item doesn't appear in Tools menu. on Linux Mint 18.3, TB 52.7.0 (64-Bit) (German). I have only "Messaging Menu and Unity Laucher integration" as add-on installed beside of AutoArchiveReloaded

I was able to change the tool bar and add there the AutoArchiveReloaded action. Otherwise I wouldn't be able to run AutoarchiveReloaded since I have an imap folder.

Do you need any more information and something else?

It would be nice to have AAR auto-delete folders when they become empty after archiving all their contents. This would keep the folder tree as lean as possible.

There could be additional settings for folders to be kept if they a) are target of an active filter and/or b) if their most recent message is younger than nnn days. This would prevent folders that are only infrequently filled from disappearing, and from breaking filters or other workflows.

Have loaded the addon to replace the older 'AutoArchive' which worked well but only archived the Inbox.
How do you set up Thunderbird/AutoarchiveReloaded to archive sent folder as well?

Thank you and one star for this add-on, the only recent autoarchiving option I found for Thunderbird. Pity that there is currently no solution for this IMAP offline bug, only drawback I can see.

I saw from the detailed log that some folders are intentionally ignored:

ignore folder '/[Gmail]/Bin' (trash)
ignore folder '/[Gmail]/Drafts' (drafts)
ignore folder '/[Gmail]/Spam' (junk)

In my humble opinion archiving should take place by default for everything, including the 3 folders above --just like it is possible to click 'archive' from within any folder in Thunderbird. I acknowledge that messages in 'junk' and 'drafts' are not expected to get old enough to be archived, but then why make things more complicated for them? As for 'bin' I can definitely see a need: how many time did I find important information in an email, which I had deleted! An option could then be added to exclude 'bin' from the schedule for those requiring it.

the addon is amazing, but it needs more internationalization, I can help with the spanish translate.

I have a user who would like to move messages older than a certain date from one IMAP account to an Archives folder on another. When I tried this configuration with AaR, Thunderbird was busy for a few seconds, then idle and nothing was moved.

(When I changed the archive location to the Archives folder on Local Folders, it worked as expected.)

The extension does not work in Thunderbird 68.

I did a big mistake unistalling 32bit version loosing all data and folders hierarchies . Now I got installed once again TB as 64 bit but now all data from IMAP is on same level and I got emails from 2008 year ... thousand and thousand of emails.
I was thinking to use your add on to archive all emails of each account since 2019 ....
Do you think is it possible ? Is there any other trick ??? Thanks

On https://brummolix.github.io/AutoarchiveReloaded/, the screenshot shows that Local Folders "("Lokale Ordner" in the img) should be included in the settings page.

On AAR 1.0.0.1 on TB 68.2.1 (64-Bit) on macOS 10.14.6 (18G1012) there is no such tab.
My other (POP mail) accounts show up fine.

Local folders are apparently excluded from AAR runs, and in the log the local folders are missing when collecting the folders to archive -- there is no such line for local folders:

As a result, AAR fails to install, no message is provided on the GUI (with the exception of the above entry in error console) as to why or that it fails.

FWIW, I had previously installed AAR (v0.9.9.1 IIRC), which always showed up as "null" on the extension list (and was so crashy that I could not actually use it).

Hi. Since your March 31 update, AutoArchive has forced an "All Mail" folder for my accounts to appear in the archive folder list that significantly slows Thunderbird. This folder exists even when I've specified an "Archives" folder for the account.

Hello,
Your application works very well at home, however it does not take into account mails that have tags or favorites ... To archive them I am forced to remove everything on each email.
I wish I could do a full archive without worrying about tags or favorites.
Is it possible to add this option or tell me what to change in the code to do that?

For some reason none of my emails get archived anymore. I just noticed this behavior after doing a backup/restore operation using MozBackup. It seems nothing has been archived since 11/28/2014!

Things I have checked:
*Archive folder set under account "Copies & Folders"
*Archive all other messages set to 180 days
*There is mail in folders older than 180 days
*All mail is 'Read'

Hello,
I am reporting an issue I have with Autoarchive. This is an issue I have since many versions, but I am currently using Thunderbird 60.0 and AutoarchiveReloaded 0.9.9.6.
Each time after a manual auto archive, all emails that have been archive are missing in the global database and therefore can't be found with the global search of Thunderbird.
I have to follow this procedure to restore a healthy global database : https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/rebuilding-global-database

My AAR is adjusted to create the archive within the local folders, but creates the archive in the mailbox itself, see attachment.

This is the error I get during the run:

On both 0.9.4 and 0.9.5 alpha3, on my German locale, the global settings window looks like this (after increasing its size a bit):

I have use the addon to archive a big amount of mails within an IMAP Google account. When I check some archived folders now there are some mails with all the same date, no subject and empty. What can I do to recover? Is there a way to get back alle the mails to my Google account?

I have been using Auto Awesome Archiver, however it's no longer supported. I like to be able to move all messages older than X days from Inbox of primary IMAP to Inbox of backup IMAP. I also want to do that for Sent and Trash folders. Can this plugin achieve that?

I'm just reporting this here to inform you. Feel free to close the bug any time if you think this is not due to AaR misbehaving. Obviously the crash should not occur and this is more in TB's domain.

I could not get AAR to work. Three problems appear:

• There was no toolbar button to add to the toolbar.
• A menu entry under "Extras" to run AAR would be nice.
• The auto-run setting (at each start of thunderbird) has no effect.

AAR 1.0.0.1 on TB 68.2.1 (64-Bit) on macOS 10.14.6 (18G1012)

After installing AutoarchiveReloaded, i can make the entries in the account settings but no button shows up in the 'Extras' Menu.

and similar files there, looking for AutoarchiveReloaded there. It seems like v0.94 is currently a source of many TB crashes (and this might be a starting point to learn more about the source of these issues - chances are the friendly people on the Mozilla IRC network can help, too).

I splitted this issue out of #18 from tomreyn:

If I then start TB again using my default locale (i.e. without the LANG=C), AutoArchive Reloaded again shows up as "null" on the extension list. However, it now shows with a properly localized description text, and I can access its (properly localized) preferences menu as well.

Trying to do an auto-archiving run results in this message written to error log, though:

It would be great if your application was able to check the network connexion itself, rather asking for "dialogStartManualText" !
My TypeScript level isn't good enough to contribute directly but I think it could be a great enhancement.
