liftoff-assignments's Issues

P4: README in project repository needs a project description

The detailed developer instructions are great, but it needs some description of what the project actually is. From the assignment:

If you've already started a project, make sure it's in GitHub. Once you check that one off, take the extra step of creating a solid README file that gives a high-level overview of your project so that visitors to your profile can learn about it.

P3: A few of your user stories may be a little big

Your user stories are well written, with good who/what/why exposition. Is there anything we can do to break them down?

One example:

As a user I can be able to receive notifications of any environmental factors that will likely destroy my crops

The keyword here that screams at me "too big" is "any" -- especially since at this point, we don't have any environmental factors in the system, so how can we implement this? Will the system have value if we implement a story that only handles one environmental factor? Who decides what the environmental factors are, and how do they do that?

Look through all of your stories and keep trying to make more smaller ones.

C1: Resume feedback

All in all, a solid resume. If I received this resume as a hiring manager, I would be interested in talking to you. Good work! My feedback follows.

Thinks you should probably fix

  • Resume should include a phone number at which you can be reached.
  • The line "AMPATH Kenya, Intern Software Developer, Eldoret, Kenya April 2016 - Oct. 2017, April 2016 - March 2017" has two date ranges in it that overlap; I'm assuming one should not be there or they are incorrect.
  • Double-check your technologies are capitalized and punctuated correctly. Some examples (I did not check them all):
    ** Javascript should be JavaScript
** Nodejs should be Node.js or just "Node"

Changes to consider

  • In my experience, "dated" sections are usually ordered most recent to oldest, where you have the opposite. You may want to reverse them; this is especially important because you want people to see your more recent tech experience first.
  • Play around with the order of the sections. Resumes are highly personal; every writer and reader are different; but for me, for example, education is far less interesting than your projects and experience. You don't have to follow this, but the recommended order I have from LC is:
    ** Personal Info
    ** Tech Skills
    ** Tech Experience
    ** Other Experience & Education
    ** Everything else

Minor nitpicks / questions

  • Check that you always have spaces between a word and a following parenthesis. There is at least one case you do not: "OpenMRS(Medical"

C1: Consider adding a photo to your LinkedIn profile

A filled out profile demonstrates an active LinkedIn account. A professional looking photo of yourself, or a picture that is meaningful to you, is a sign of an active LinkedIn account.

This is ultimately up to you, especially where privacy and/or concerns about your current employer are involved.

Link to project tracker is missing

The assignment says:

Project Tracker: We talked about various project tracking tools Pivotal, Trello, and GitHub Projects. Whichever you commit to using link here.

The intent was you should link to your project tracker from your Project Outline.

Scheduled Service

Create a scheduled service/component that will mock the sensor data.

I am concerned about the subject of this project

I think you have the right size of project, and a good technology list, but I have a significant concern about your project.

HIPAA compliance is an enormous issue for anything dealing with personal information in combination with medical information. There are people who make a career of doing nothing but advising and auditing software companies on this matter. I'm not sure it is a good idea to tackle a project in the medical information space for this class.

Is there a similarly-sized project you had in mind that can utilize the same technologies?
