liftoff-assignments's Introduction

Start Here!

Welcome to Liftoff! We are excited to have you in this course.

You are currently viewing the Liftoff Assignments Repository. This repo contains information about all of the assignments in the course, and will be how you will submit much of your work.

Repo Explanation

In Liftoff we are focusing on two things: your Personal Project, and Career Readiness skills. Throughout this course you will have assignments related to both of those core areas. Looking through this repo you can see Personal Project assignments, and Career Readiness assignments.

Personal Project Assignments are flagged with P#, and Career Readiness assignments are flagged with C#, both are followed by the name of the assignment.

You will use this repository in tandem with Canvas. All of your grades will be recorded in Canvas, however you will submit your work through this GitHub repository.

We are making you use GitHub for two important reasons:

  1. You will get more practice with GitHub
  2. Your assignments are all stored in one place

Next Step

Now that you know what this repo is for let's get it setup.

Click the P1 - Assignment Repository Setup repo for further instructions.

liftoff-assignments's Issues

consistency in updating LEARNERS.md

LEARNERS.md - I presume we are section 2? I see the pull requests - everybody's done it slightly different. I guess that'll be covered tonight. Should I wait or do it now? My thinking is to delete the old stuff on my own repo's LEARNERS.md and just put my info. Thoughts? (edited)

Per:
https://help.github.com/articles/creating-a-pull-request-from-a-fork/

I selected:
Create a new branch for this commit and start a pull request. Learn more about pull requests.

which defaulted to a: GITHUB_USERNAME-patch-1
branch name.

I presume this is the _topic_branch in the aforementioned link? Of the PR's that I've looked at on the LaunchCode repo, everybody's used their master branch as their compare branch, whereas I used what I think is this "topic" branch, defaulting to a name ending in -patch-1. I did it this way in case I'm told later I need to change and make a new commit.

Is my thinking logical?

Need Email Notification

As a user, upon submission of my order, I expect to receive an email that my order was placed. I also expect stlgyros.com to also be notified via email.

Checking for late submissions to Project Setup Assignment

I was wondering if someone would look to see if there have been any updates to the Learners(3/28) file, after the assignment was due, as I have 1 or 2 students that do not have links to their GitHub Assignment Repo, therefore, I cannot see their Assignments.

Please and Thank You!

User Login

As a user, I need to have a way to login to the system so I will have an account where I can access my recent orders as well as place new orders.

I should have a login page with a primary identifier and password.

Order Section

As a user, I should have access to an order section in which, I can view a form of all possible menu items available, their price and select quantity. As a user, I should be able to list my contact info and location for food to be delivered, or as a logged in user, this information is generated when I first open the form. I should also have a place for notes for the company to fill. This should be a form that upon submission, sends my order to STLGyros.com primary contact for the order to be completed.

optional:

  • It can have a preview total

Project Setup in Week 4?

This seems like a mistake, why are we having our students set up their project repo in Week 4. I feel like this should be week 0 or 1. Especially considering that the P4 Assignment page can literally be construed to mean: Set a Hello World program. When in all reality the students should already have their own project repo set up by this time and be working their user stories.

Selecting Issues in GitHub Settings part of P1 Assignment repo setup.

We need to add something to the effect:
Now that you have cloned the repo, and have your own remote repository, go to Github, select this repo, click on settings, and make sure you click the checkbox next to Issues.
It seems odd that this isn't apart of the assignment, seemings you want us, the TA's, to comment on Students' progress using GitHub Issues.
