Novapoint Railway: Draw long-profile: small scales lock up OS

Context

When a long-profile is drawn to the drawing with with a horizontal scale of ea 1/10 and vertical scale of 1:1 (ea. the axis of a road crossing) it crashes the complete operating system.

Possible Fix

  • All exceptions that occur during the drawing command should be handled gracefully. There is no reason to crash a complete OS, just because a function failes.
  • Check if scales are valid before actually drawing to AutoCAD.

Work around

If u need a smaller drawing scale:

  • draw the LP on a horizontal scale higher than 1/50
  • scale the drawing in a viewport

Recovering from lock

  • Open windowstaskmanager and end task (acad.exe) asap.

Tip: ctrl + left-shift + ESC opens taskmanager

  • If you are not fast enough to kill the process, reboot PC by using the physical button on your workstation.

Steps to Reproduce

  1. Use drawing-style Belgium.Railway.Standard
  2. Draw a LP with a horizontal scale of 1/10 and vertical scale of 1:1.

Novapoint Railway: Draw Longprofile: Styles

Context

When using the new feature to add the distance between project (Z), and the calculated terrain (z) to a long profile, the value's of the project-z are wrong. We have already been asking for this feature for quite a while now.

Wanted Behaviour

When using the long-profile style Belgium.Railway.DeltaZ value's of delta Z are wrong.

Actual Behaviour

When using the long-profile style Belgium.Railway.DeltaZ value's of delta Z should be calculated with reference to the right terrain value.

Because this “feature” does not work, our designers loose day's of work manually adjusting z value's all over. Manually adjusting results leads to typing errors which cost money ...

Novapoint Railway: Alignement Design: Pick Object <

Context

When using the Pick Object < button in alignement design the result is inconsistent, and wrong. See the image below.

Expected Behaviour

Original geometries from autocad are interpreted correct by the software.

Actual Behaviour

When selecting the geometries as seen in the example, we expect it to actually match the original geometries. (line became line/line, ect ...)

Steps to Reproduce

  1. Open file in attachment.
  2. Use the pick object< button on one of the examples.
  3. Observe the faulty interpreted geometries.

Context

The fast and easy way of selecting and adding alignement-data is now not functional, this means designers lose productivity.

Novapoint Railway: Alignement Design: CRASHES on TRIM/EXSTEND commands

Context

When the user uses the build in AutoCAD commands TRIM/EXTEND, and hoovers the cursor in the proximity of an open alignement, fatal errors are common to occur. This leads to big frustrations with the users.

Expected Behaviour

No more crashes when using the TRIM or EXTEND commands in conjunction of an open alignement.

Actual Behaviour

Crashes occur on a regular basis.

Possible Fix/work around

FIX
As u can see in the screenshot, the software reports a LOCK VIOLATION, should not be that hard to find.

Workaround:

  • When using the TRIM/EXTEND command, close all open alignements.

Steps to Reproduce

  1. There is no consistent maner of reproducing this error. It occurs at random.

Context

Make sure to have an open alignement (or multiple), and use the TRIM/EXTEND functions on normal AutoCAD entity's.

Novapoint Railway: Alignement Design: Stopping (starting) with CLO of X length.

Context

Would like to be able to design an alignement that ends with a CLO having a certain length.

Lets say we want to pass out the track layout as described to a surveyor as LANDXML. We start our design from a known CLO, from a previous design.

Ea.: 70m as seen here is this example:

Expected Behaviour

The design should be accepted as CALC OK when being called from the database.

Actual Behaviour

After having designed the the alignement, I can save it the alignement to the database by naming it. But upon retrieving the alignement from the database, I get a CALC not OK light bulb.

Steps to Reproduce

  1. Create alignement
  2. add line 150m
  3. add arc radius 2500m
  4. add transition 70m
  5. save to database
  6. close
  7. reopen alignement from database

Novapoint Base: Railway Model: Preview on build causes a crash.

Expected Behaviour

When clicking finish after letting the application calculate a preview, the result should be saved, and the task should be closed.

Actual Behaviour

When clicking finisch after letting the application calculate a preview, the application crasches

Steps to Reproduce

  1. use sample project, and execute nexst steps
  2. modeling - railway
  3. select Line 1 as alignement
  4. set speed
  5. step true cross section wizzard (default)
  6. press preview (build(checked), ignore errors (unchecked), all sections (checked))
  7. now press build --> CRASH

Extra info

  • Tested with latest driver, bug persists.
  • Tested on other configuration, bug is not reproducible.
  • The bug only occurs when the task is finished, and the PREVIEW WINDOW is still open

Context

All users in the company are effected with this bug, preview --> save task leads to crashes.

Workaround

Do not use the preview button!

Close preview window before pressing finish!

Novapoint Railway: Alignement Design: Vertical Drawing: inconsistency of calculus

Context

In the example landxml file you will find a dataset that is used in the step by step reproduction of the problem defined below.

Same geometry leads to different conclusion of the applications calculation. It is a hard problem to explain, so please just follow the steps below.

Expected Behaviour

Whenever a connection is possible, the application is capable of producing the same result, no mater in what order actions are executed.

Steps to Reproduce

The way it will not work

  1. open landxml file in alignementdesign
  2. save alignement in (data)base
  3. open vertical drawing
  4. draw an AutoCAD line over element 5
  5. delete element 4 & 5
  6. make sure u have 100m set in Design Standard - Vert. Al. - Radius
  7. right click element 3 and select "add arc and connect", and connect it to the line u have drawn in step 4
  8. calk is OK
  9. change radius of element 4 to 5000m
  10. calc is NOT OK

So you would now conclude the connection is not possible, the application gives this as error:

Now you conclude that the connection is possible, even though we started from the illogical state we had in step 7.

Context

This kind of inconsistency makes it very hard for the user to estimate if something is really impossible or if it is just a bug in the application.

Novapoint Base: Renaming Quadri model

Context

Sometimes when we start with a project, the name a quadri-model is given is not the name we want it to have when the project grows to it's final stage.

Novapoint Railway: Alignement Reports: .GEO

Context

Whenever I export an alignement to the .GEO format, the operator I give it to reports this:

Expected Behaviour

When opening a file in WinALC, and performing a simulation of the work, the application should not crash.

Actual Behaviour

The application crashes when performing a simulation of the work.

Possible Fix

When examining the lines of code generated in the .GEO file there seems to be something wrong with the last line of the vertical information.

The code 480 is repeated at the end of the line.

Steps to Reproduce

  1. Create an alignement with geometry in the vertical and horizontal plane.
  2. Execute OK - draw.
  3. Generate GEO file.
  4. Open file into WINALC
  5. Execute (dutch --> Uitvoeren werken) simulation.
  6. Application should now crash.

Novapoint Railway: Alignement Design: Mismatch between DB objects and drawn object in drawing.

Context

When creating alignements, and saving them to database. Connection between the drawn objects and the objects in database are not correct, or data of an already created alignement is overwritten with data of the other.

Expected Behaviour

When an object is saved it does not override previous designed data, when clicking on on object with nco command the right object is selected.

Actual Behaviour

Connection between the drawn objects and the objects in database are not correct, or data of an already created alignement is overwritten with data of the other.

Create alignements, save them, and in time mismatches will become obvious.

Context

This is a real pain! Losing a lot of designdata = loosing time to fetch backups!
Reliability of the software is VERY low !

This problem has been reported by multiple user, using different workflows.

Novapoint Railway: Alignement Design: Update to 20.05 removed possibility of drawing cant/speed/radius value to DWG file.

Context

A change in behavior of the application has been reported by multiple users of the new software version 20.05. When drawing out the result of an alignment, cant is not added to the visualization of the axis. This feature was working perfectly fine in previous version (19.35).

Some context is provided by the user:

Ik had het probleem dat onze stijl om uit te tekenen geen bochtstraal, snelheid, verkanting en verkantingstekort meer weergaf zonder er eerst een Railway Model + LP bij te maken.
(Wat ons veel tijd kost, aangezien we die dingen sneller, correcter en gebruikersvriendelijker in C3D doen.)

Translated:

Style does not draw radius, speed and cant without first calculating a railway model + creating a long profile. (Model and profile is created using the Civil 3D tool-set, user finds the workflow more intuitive and user friendly, witch saves the user a lot of time).

Novapoint Railway: Alignement Design: Vertical Drawing: Delete helpline

Context

When a user has drawn a helpline in the vertical drawing, and wishes to delete this line, but miss-clicked: a fatal error is thrown. This even happens when the initial line is sent to back, and the user clicks the NVP-line itself.
