GOV.UK Prototype kit · Greenkeeper badge

Go to the GOV.UK Prototype Kit site to download the latest version and read the documentation.

About the prototype kit

The prototype kit provides a simple way to make interactive prototypes that look like pages on GOV.UK. These prototypes can be used to show ideas to people you work with, and to do user research.

Read the project principles.

Security

If you publish your prototypes online, they must be protected by a username and password. This is to prevent members of the public finding prototypes and thinking they are real services.

You must protect user privacy at all times, even when using prototypes. Prototypes made with the kit look like GOV.UK, but do not have the same security provisions. Always make sure you are handling user data appropriately.

Before you check someone's identity, they will need to generate a unique identity code using GOV.UK Verify.

When recruiting new employees, a link to generate this code will be sent with their offer to interview.

Why?
Poor copy, No understanding or ability what the verify journey looks like.

Who?

ID Checkers weren't clear if the ID Check was done immediately or during a batch process later.

ID Checkers want the ability to preview the Verify and ID Checking Journey

Where?
Guidance Screen

Why?
ID Checkers want the ability to preview the applicants verify journey so they understand the process in case an applicant encounters any difficult. This will also help them understand the process.

ID Checkers also want the ability to preview and test the ID Checking Process before using it for the first time.

ID Checkers not comfortable taking a photo of applicant

Where?
ID Checkers we spoke to felt uncomfortable taking a photo of an applicant.

They said that taking a photo felt intimate and might make applicants feel nervous about the use of their data.

Two suggestions kept coming up from ID Checkers about how this could be less uncomfortable. Ask applicants to take their own photo or capture the photo in a more formal way similar to a passport photo.

"The meeting with applicants can be awkward and this would add to it."
