audio-recognizer's Introduction

Shazam in Java

Roy van Rijn has written wonderful post about Shazam algorithm and how to implement it on our own. To do this he placed many chunks of his project source code, but he did not upload all source code of his application because as he stated:

The Shazam patent holders lawyers are sending me emails to stop me from releasing the code and removing this blogpost.

It occurred that core of this algorithm is very simple. I have analyzed his post and as weekend project I have written simple Proof-Of-Concept application which outputs its findings to console. It gives surprisingly correct answers. For now I have tested 10 different mp3 audio files and this application was able to recognize each of them. Application is learning basing on path to mp3 file on your local disk or http stream of mp3 file from any source and recognize by sound from microphone.

audio-recognizer's Issues

Nice work! But the application is having some error.!

Great work indeed! But there are some issues with your approach. You are trying to store a large chunck of data which is not a good approach. It would be better to use the similarity criteria like Jacard's Similarity etc. Apart from that there are issues with the application's Stop button.
Nevertheless, Great effort and clean Code!!

Something wrong or I misunderstand?

for (int freq = LOWER_LIMIT; freq < UPPER_LIMIT - 1; freq++) {

Freq is inited to LOWER_LIMIT(40). Then, the index geted is 0 with the method
// Find out in which range
public int getIndex(int freq) {
int i = 0;
while (RANGE[i] < freq)
i++;
return i;
}
Just one point in section 0.

The reflection like:
0 : 40,
1 : 41-80,
2 : 81 - 120,
3 : 121 - 180,
4 : 181 - 300.
Is this a bug or I just misunderstand?

Fingerprinting mp4 files FormatConversionProvider

Great demo code, thank you!
I was wondering if you have ever seen a way to have a FormatConversionProvider for a mp4 audio file? I was hoping to try your code on my own library, but with the defaults being mp4 instead of mp3, no such luck.
