I realize this is a nit-picky kind of request, but "thethering" should be
changed to "tethering" on the project home page.  This might even help
improve search engine hits for "android tethering".

Phone: Motorola Droid 2.1
OS: Windows 7 64-bit

I have done everything as said in instructions up to the point of locating the 
driver.  It would not recognize the provided driver from proxoid in the pack.  
I then went to Motorola's website and downloaded and installed the driver for 
the phone there.

Now, the phone IS recognized in device manager as Mot Composite ADB Interface.

I have checked that the phone is in USB debug mode and it is.

When I run check.bat NOTHING is listed under List of Devices Attached.  How can 
I correct this problem?

Just to check, I went ahead with the proceeding steps (correctly) but browser 
says that proxy is not working properly.

I'm running WinXP.  I followed all the instructions exactly, and there were no 
problems, but 
I still can't get online.

Hello,

internet traffic is extremely slow here using ubuntu karmic and tethering 
with motorola milestone / droid.

Web sites opened using the browser on the phone load without problems, same 
web sites opened on the laptop will load extremely slowly or timeout.

Any thoughts?

I wanted to touch base with you since I am struggling to get Proxoid to
work on my Gateway PC.  I was able to download the android directory but
trying to get the driver to install which is approximately Step 3.4 on your
install instructions where it says my driver is up to date.  My guess is
that when I first downloaded the drivers, I used the Windows Vista but I
actually have Windows 7 on my new Laptop.  I assumed since Vista and
windows were close it might work but that may not be the case.  I am
certainly not a technician of any sort but enough knowledge to be a bit
dangerous.  Does there need to be a special driver download for Windows 7?

I would appreciate any help you could provide.

Locale (and Tasker which also supports locale plug-ins) allows you to run
specific actions based on conditions.

For example setting the phone to silent when I'm in the office, or enabling
airplane mode between midnight and 8am.

If Proxoid supported locale plugin queries I could set up a rule to
automatically enable proxoid upon plugging in the USB cable.

I have the phones correct drivers installed. but when i click start tunnel it 
doesn't recognize it. i even uninstalled the Motorola drivers and installed

Hi, I wasn't able to get the vista 64bit driver working on my Windows 7
(64bit) machine. I have a core2 duo and once I tried selecting the driver
it just said that there wasn't any compatible drivers in that folder. Are
there any plans to develop drivers that will work with is OS.

Expect to be able to connect to irc w/o error.  Instead, the IP address of the 
android device is immediately blocked by Freenode's open proxy scan.

I follow all the steps up to installing the drivers. I extracted the zip file 
and directed Windows to the specified folder for my driver, and I got 
"Windows could not find driver software for your device." I don't have any 
drivers installed already. Still, I downloaded USBDeview and uninstalled the 
drivers that automatically show up. Still doesn't work.

I don't know if this is a known issue. I can not check mail with thunderbird.

There are some situations where chaining proxoid to another http proxy
would be needed.
Some proxies out there are designed to provide added features to the
standard HTTP proxy.

For instance, ziproxy is a compressing proxy. Basically it lowers image
quality and uses gzip to compress pages, hence helping in low-bandwidth
situations.
Privoxy can help with ad-filtering and protecting privacy.

Both of them can be chained together.

If you could add authenticated chaining to a given proxy it would provide
features for proxoid we could never get in the phone.

I suppose we also could use to proxy the Android Browser through proxoid
(there's a system activity that allows setting up a proxy) and get
compression and ad-filtering capabilities.

Please consider adding this feature.

What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. Windows 7 64bit. Followed instructions on getting Proxoid installed and 
working on the Motorola Droid... meaning opening a browser on the machine will 
access internet successfully after following instructions.

2. Startup Android Emulator Google API v8 using eclipse then launch the browser 
and get the following error: "No network connection:  Browser cannot load this 
page because there is no internet connection". Meanwhile I can still get 
internet access through the machines web browser.

3. Now I try the following command: "C:\android-sdk-windows\tools>emulator.exe 
-avd AVD_2.2_wSD -http-proxy http://localhost:8080 -debug-proxy -dns-server 
localhost"

I also use variants of the "-dns-server 127.0.0.1", "-dns-server 
127.0.0.1:8080", "8.8.8.8", "8.8.4.4", etc... Still get same error message:  

### WARNING: can't resolve DNS server name 'localhost'
### WARNING: will use system default DNS server

I am a little confused here as most of the information I found on changing 
Windows 7 DNS records indicate that you should basically go to the interface 
being used and enter static addresses... Because I am connecting using Proxoid 
I am not sure how to modify this information as the command "ipconfig /all" 
does not list the proxy connection as one of the interfaces being used...

What do you see instead?
I see that I have more to learn about the inner workings of networking 
concepts. I am assuming that start-tunnel script launches a service which 
listens for connections on locahost:8080 and acts as the proxy to the network 
through my phones data connection. If this is the case then I wonder why the 
Android Emulator does not know how to resolve the connection unless because the 
connection is already using part of the toolkit and thus concurrent instances 
of "Android Devices" need to be made aware of each other???

I apologize in advance for posting this here as most likely this is something 
related to the Android Emulator... However I am using Proxoid and do not 
normally have problems with the Emulator connecting to the internet when on a 
regular Wifi/Ethernet connected LAN. Also I am sorry that I use Windows 7 in 
this example but my laptop has an Arrandale chip set which I have not been able 
to have working correctly with Ubuntu 10.04 and multi display/back light 
control. So when working in a mobile situation Windows 7 has all the correct 
drivers to squeeze as much time from my battery as possible. I intend to try 
Ubuntu 10.10 soon but that requires time away from work that actually pays.

Hi,

I used the application on a mobile which is connected through a VPN to a LAN 
and to the Internet with the classic HSDPA connection.

I try to retrieve files from the Internet from on a computer in the LAN.

My HSDPA connection is much faster than the VPN one, and that why the file 
transfert finishes earlier on the Proxy<->Server side.

The problem is that on big files, the server closes the socket before the 
mobile application could send all the remaining buffer to the client.

I  modify the write method to avoid this problem.

It was flawless until I installed the sync update on my
