vga-text-mode-fonts's Introduction

Bitmap fonts compatible w/VGA text mode

Compiled for use with the Fontraption font editor. Contains 1760 font files (as of 2020-11-25).

  • See FONTS.TXT for detailed information, font descriptions, origins, and credits.
  • For compatibility with Fontraption (and DOS in general), filenames are in the 8.3 format.
  • As a convention, file extensions are ".F??" with two final digits specifying the font's height.

All fonts here are monospaced, 8 pixels wide, and up to 32 lines tall. They're stored in the native raw binary format of the VGA BIOS routines: a sequence of 256 characters, each up to 32 bytes long. One byte per scanline, one bit per pixel.

For convenicence: the "PREVIEWS" folder contains a .png preview of each font (using non-8.3 filenames).

NOTE: Git doesn't preserve file dates! Dates are an important historical cue in a collection like this -- to have them intact, grab the latest archive from the Releases page.

vga-text-mode-fonts's Issues

it's a need exist for have linuxfonts psf & psfu

Hi,

it's a need to have these "The Oldschool PC Font" as real working linuxfonts in psf and/or psfu with 512 Glyph for use in linux-console, if you make ttf, woff&woff2, would it also perfectly if these fonts directly with all informations and not more as 512 Glyh's to have for working in console and for working in right way with "setfont" still not exist, this would great to have and able to use not only in Gui with TTF, also via console / in Linux console at all distribution for have a good variety in all LinuxConsole from all Linuxdistros..
i have try to make psf but has not propper works and i have errors at loading in linuxconsole..
If you could add psf from all fonts maybe also in gz'ed psf or psfu fonts in an own /consolefonts folder would it great and usable for the next 1000 Century in linux console too*bg*

best regards
Blacky
