For example if people would like to copy resources from other image and combine with their layered java app.

Dont know if layered docker images are able to be copied from or they must be the final image.

Currently its hardcoded to google distroless JVM. but people will like want to change that.

Not sure if we always want to have resources expanded on the file system. Allow an option to create them as jars.

Given that we depend on nix.dockerTools.buildLayeredImage we should provide a nix flake for easy integration on external proyects.

Not sure if applicable on this repo, but given that this was created to be used on scala projects, it would be nice to have a mill module that can build a layered image from an mill assembly jar.

Also provide example app.

Currently the script splits the fatjar searching for directories > 2M in size, with the assumption that big folders are not likely changing from release to release. Most of the time, they are metadata-resources or other libraries.

For example, on a big project we have this results (splitting by >2M) but it would be fine to let the use customize this limit.

support at least --help and print errors if not given enought arguments.

Use unzip and zip to manipulate jar files.

Provide sections on README explaining how to convert a fat jar into a layered docker image.

It should be able to create a docker layered image. And run a java application from it.

The current prototype includes the jar content at the top level of the image file-system. Allow an option to indicate a directory where we want the layers to be expanded.
