website's Issues

Join: Form Fixes

  1. Copy form as is today

  2. Can we change “Referral Code” to “How did you hear about us?”. Instead of a text entry they’ll be a drop down with the following options: Through a current/former U.S. Digital Service Employee, At an event, Through an article/video, Other. Once a user clicks one of those 4 options, we can pop up a text entry for: Which Employee, What event, Which article..

  3. Can we add a character counter to the 500 character limit box at the bottom? I’d like to keep people from having to leave the page to count characters.

Site-wide: Set Up GA & DAP

Google Analytics:

  • general tracking code
  • goal tracking (you and I can set this up together)
  • IP masking

DAP

  • github.com/digital-analytics-program/gov-wide-code

Homepage: Photorail

  • Update to be only two rows, full width across
  • we'll select final photos in person before pushing live

Lockup options for USDS logo with 'white house' included

Three variations of including the language 'The White House' in the USDS logo for the website.

These are just proposals, and haven't been tested for visibility on mobile view so may still need some refinement.

IMO the seal version is the strongest because it creates a distinction between the text of the navigation and the text of the logo.

Join Us: Add pages for each item on side nav

ie: clicking "Dress" should bring up info. Placeholder copy is fine, I will update.

Also, this should be built so that clicking from a partially completed application --> an item on the side nav doesn't clear your application.

Homepage: People Section

  1. Replace the current arrow with Jess' gold arrows (originally in the TED talk CTA)
  2. Make the entire left and right area around the arrows clickable

Balancing new content with whitehouse.gov content

An important part of this redesign is that we'll be moving most of the content off of whitehouse.gov to an outside domain. While this gives us a lot more flexibility to choose our own design and content.

Are the trade-offs clear? Is there more research to be done?

Revision to 'about us' infographic layout

for @nguyenist + @davidrkaufman -- awesome work on this! per request, here's a slightly modified version to make this a little bit shorter and snappier. Removed 1.5 graphics, increased size + line height of typography, modified padding just a bit. This isn't pixel perfect but happy to help it get there as is helpful. as follows:

Type specs:
Merriweather
size 22px
line-height: 30px

divs not fitting into infographic-container class - not sure why

image

cannot figure out why the bottom row isn't fitting into my infographic-container class. It's taking up the whole width of the container.

  <div="row">
      <div class="usa-width-one-half"><img class="reserve" src="img/about-infographic/infographic-states.png" alt="united states" />From 12 states (and Puerto Rico)</div>
      <div class="usa-width-one-half"><img class="reserve" src="img/about-infographic/infographic-151.png" alt="151 text large" /><p>151 people and growing</p></div>
  </div>

  <div="row">
      <div class="usa-width-one-half"><img class="reserve" src="img/about-infographic/infographic-piechart.png" alt="pie chart" /><p>Over 50% women</p></div>
      <div class="usa-width-one-half"><img class="reserve" src="img/about-infographic/infographic-lamp.png" alt="laptop with stickers and emojis" /><p>Emoji, post-its, and sticker enthusiasts</p></div>
  </div>

Content review?

What's the content review plan? Want to make sure we have time saved and a process in place.

Switch to Federalist

The more I work through this, the more I think it should live on Federalist.

I'm waiting on 18F to send me an invite. In the meantime, I'll continue to build out the main styles, visualizations, etc.
