Have been getting frequent timeouts from Himawari and GOES servers that stalls updating of the site, sometimes for many hours or even days. A potential solution:

• split workflow into sequential jobs, each of which:
  • attempts to get latest satellite image
  • records response status (e.g. 200 vs 500, 404)
  • records last successful update time (AND last failure if applicable)
  • updates image if possible, otherwise fails silently (but updates site with relevant failure data)

This would allow the site to be continually updated with working providers, even when one is down. Would also act as a decent status page for major institutional satellite imagery providers.
