Design system architecture

  • homed will mount home directory for each configured user (e.g. home/john) and act as a filesystem driver on the userspace.
  • The driver for data storage will be implemented as an extension module and can be configured per user (e.g. /home/john will use FTP and home/alice will use some cloud storage).
  • The driver for data storage can be cached all accessed files in that session to /var/cache/homed to speed up when accessing those files next time.
  • Each time a session is ended homed will store all packages version in the system to the configured data storage.
  • Before mounting home directory homed will check all packages in the system to see if its version is greater or equals with the information in the data storage. If there is a package with a lower version then homed will mount an empty directory instead to let user upgrade their system.
