viewportsize's Issues

Different approach

I just came across your blog post http://www.matanich.com/2013/01/07/viewport-size/

What do you think of this approach?

var getViewportSize = function(fn) {
  var div = document.createElement('div');
  div.style.cssText = 'background:red;position:fixed;top:0;right:0;bottom:0;left:0;';

  document.body.appendChild(div);

  var rect = div.getBoundingClientRect();

  fn({
    width: rect.right - rect.left,
    height: rect.bottom - rect.top
  });

  document.body.removeChild(div);
}

getViewportSize(function(size) {
    console.log(size);
});

Simple Check on resize

I am trying to check how it works . This is my code:

<script src="viewportSize.js"></script> <script> function resize_viewport(){ var width = viewportSize.getWidth(); var height = viewportSize.getHeight(); $(window).resize(function(){ if( width < 767 ){ //$('body').addClass('seven-six-less'); //$('body').css({'background':'#000'}); alert("Hi"); } }); } resize_viewport(); </script>

But I am not getting it worked. Can anyone please help? Thanks in advance.

Updated method of calculating

Wouldn't something like this work? This is not optimized at all, but the logic should be solid.

function browserWidth() {
    if(window && 'innerWidth' in window) {
        var innerWidth = window.innerWidth;
    }

    if(document && document.documentElement && 'clientWidth' in document.documentElement) {
        var clientWidth = document.documentElement.clientWidth;
    }

    if(typeof innerWidth !== "undefined" && typeof clientWidth !== "undefined") {
        return Math.min(innerWidth, clientWidth);
    }

    if(typeof innerWidth !== "undefined") {
        return innerWidth;
    }

    if(typeof clientWidth !== "undefined") {
        return clientWidth;
    }

    if(document && document.getElementsByTagName('body')[0] && document.getElementsByTagName('body')[0].clientWidth) {
        return document.getElementsByTagName('body')[0].clientWidth;
    }

    return null;
}
