Great work!
I actually did implement a very similar simulation during my engineering studies and one feature we had which changed greatly how the ants move is to actually have a limited lifespan for the pheromones so that they disappear totally at some point. That way, erratic ways will soon be discarded and no longer followed. No need neither for the "no food" pheromone.
It seems you implemented some kind of lifespan for the pheromone but they are slow to diminish and never disappear completely.

I think having a limited lifespan for all the pheromones is actually more real and interesting.

about one or two days ago, I tried to play the game. was not working, so I used isup.me to check if it was just me. It wasn't. It was down for everyone. So, I just sucked it up and did something else. Today I tried to see if it was fixed but now it shows a screen with the following at the bottom, "This domain has expired. If you owned this domain, contact your domain registration service provider for further assistance. If you need help identifying your provider, visit https://www.tucowsdomains.com/" can someone fix it?
