compass's Issues

All Azimuth values are in a negative range

Device = Pixel 3a
OS = UT 16.04 2021-W51/2 (rc)
App version = 1.0.0 12.29.2021

Action:
Start the app.
Rotate device to desired positive azimuth value

Expected behavior
Azimuth indicates the corresponding positive value in degrees, counting up clockwise, starting at 1, going around to 359 and rolling over to 0 at N.

actual behavior
First value clockwise is -359, counting upwards, going around clockwise to 0 at N

I'm willing to test, put CLI commands, submit logs.

'-1' degrees is an invalid value

Action:
Start the app.
Rotate the device to '-1' degrees azimuth

Expected behavior
Azimuth indicates '-1' degrees

actual behavior
At '-1' degrees the text 'No compass backend found. Check if your device has a working compass sensor' is displayed.

Calibration stays at 0%, compass works anyway

Device = Pixel 3a
OS = UT 16.04 2021-W51/2 (rc)
App version = 1.0.0 12.29.2021

Action:
Start the app.
Observe function and calibration percentage, rotate device to calibrate as instructed

Expected behavior
Either:

  • compass is accurate, does not require calibration and is therefore 100% calibrated, or
  • compass is not accurate and requires calibration. Rotating the device makes the percentage go up

Actual behavior:
Compass is accurate to whole degree increments (checked with another compass) but calibration remains 0%

Suggestion: attaching a percentage to the calibration may not be useful. It either is or isn't sufficiently calibrated?

I'm willing to test, put CLI commands, submit logs.

[feature request] user Manual part

Hello and thank you for the 'facelift' of this app desired on all smartphones.
As said in the comments on the Openstore, I do not know if the compass works (totally or partially) on the Volla. What about it ? It seems that after SOME reboot of the smartphone, the calibration is 100% but usually it remains at 33%. See comments HelloVolla/ubuntu-touch-beta-tests#75

Anyway, it would be nice to include a complete user manual part, even if it may seem obvious to use a compass. Some ideas : what exactly to do to set the compass correctly, what should be obtained for a successful setting, what should the large part of the needle indicate if the compass is working normally, how to use the compass correctly (smartphone horizontally, vertically or indifferently)... Thanks
