Use of rpm rate of change to identify ideal shift points

Would it be possible to develop a gauge which shows the rate of change of engine rpm's?

My thought is that the ideal time to up shift is when the rpm ROC of the next gear matches the ROC of the current gear. If you think of it as engine torque then ideally maximum torque occurs
for each gear occurs initially and then declines as the car accelerates. The best time to upshift is at the point when the declining torque curve of the current gear exactly matches the inital torque of the next gear. Wait too long and there is lost opportunity. Shift too soon and the torgue steps back before increasing again. I've attached a set of torque curves which show the process.

Since there is no engine torque values provided in iracings telemetry, I thought the engine rpm rate of change could be calculated real time and would closely correlate with torque.

Anyway, I envision a simple gauge thats usec during testing which would allow the user to better determine the optimum shift points for the track condtions and car setup. You would watch the gauge while trying different shift points until you find the specific rpm for each shift point where the ROC matches before and after the shift.

I came across your work here and thought this might be something you would e interested in. Unforetunately, I have zero ability to develop this tool myself.

Thanks,

Larry
