I wish the terraform plugin would respect the .terraform-version file, which seems to be a common method to specify the expected terraform version among the more popular terraform version managers (at least tfvm and tfenv).

And also allow TERRAFORM_VERSION (and maybe TFVM_TERRAFORM_VERSION/TFENV_TERRAFORM_VERSION) to override/supplant the .terraform-version file.

And while writing the wishlist, scan the terraform files for allowed terraform version ranges 😄

I realize this requires writing a terraform WASM plugin, and at least the last item is non-trivial (in a terraform project, the required terraform version might change depending on which directory you start terraform).

I really like the idea of one version manager to rule them all, and currently this is the last obstacle to remove the last one I use.
