abandoned-thali-pouchdb-express's Introduction

thali-pouchdb-express Thali ACL Middleware for Express-PouchDB

This project is to provide middleware for express-pouchdb to enforce ACLs using the thali-acl database.

Installation

$ npm install thali-pouchdb-express

Usage

var PouchDB = require('pouchdb');
var ThaliAclDb = require('thali-acl-db');
var ThaliMiddleware = require('thali-pouchdb-express');

var express = require('express');
var app = express();

// Create and populate the ACL database
var acl = new ThaliAclDb('acl');

// Create the middleware component
var component = new ThaliMiddleware(acl);

app.use(component.middleware());
app.use('/db', require('express-pouchdb')(PouchDB));

var server = app.listen(3000, function () {

  var host = server.address().address;
  var port = server.address().port;

  console.log('Example app listening at http://%s:%s', host, port);
});

abandoned-thali-pouchdb-express's Issues

We need a custom http agent!

nodejs/node-v0.x-archive#4769 has been a nightmare for PouchDB perf because it means connections constantly get closed if we don't immediately have content for them which causes entire 'buckets' of content to be synch'd to be abandoned and started over again. If the resolution in the bug actually works this will seriously juice our perf!

But here is an issue to really scare you - what happens if the pool contains more than one connection and its running over unpaired bluetooth or the multi-peer connectivity framework? Both only have a single socket. I'm not sure how we will run our content over that one socket but my guess is that it will look to us like a single TCP/IP connection. If that is the case then our custom http agent needs to have exactly one one member of its pool.

On the other hand if we are running over any normal TCP transport (e.g. Wi-Fi, Cell, etc.) then we want to use an unlimited number of sockets in the pool.

So we'll need to figure out (eventually) how to dynamically change which pool we are using depending on which transport we are going over. Oh, won't that be fun?
