License: I favour BSD, and that's the license IPython itself uses too. Uploaded a LICENSE file for that.

Author: if you're planning to work on this, put both of us, separated by commas.

Python versions: I mainly use Python 3, so I'd like to keep supporting that. It's fairly easy to write code that works with 2.7 and 3.3+. I wouldn't worry about older versions; we've already dropped support for them in IPython.

Uninspired names from playing with Google translate:

  • tabulera (tabulate in Swedish)
  • tabuleer (" in Afrikaans) - also has a nice ring in English: 'here comes...the tabuleer'
  • tabulazio (tabulation in Basque)
  • whakaripa (tabulate in Maori)

I have made the necessary changes to make the package installable via setuptools but it's not yet registered in PyPI.

Unless we intend to expand the package to make it useful beyond IPython notebook, I prefer keeping some reference to IPython in the name, say, ipytables or ipyntables. The name ipy_table is already taken and does something very similar although development seemed to have stopped (hence the PR for latex support hasn't been merged).

Great. I'm fine with keeping a reference to IPython in, but I would like to differentiate it a bit more from ipy_table.

Picking up from your previous suggestions:

  • tabulipyra
  • tabulipyr
  • whakaripya

Some more suggestions:

  • ipynt (eye-pint)
  • tabipy (tabify)

Hmm. None of them exactly grab me. I think trying to combine the foreign words with ipy makes for overly long, unwieldy names. Let's go with tabipy, unless you've thought of anything you like better.

We'll take tabipy then. How shall we spell it? tabipy, tabIPy, tabIPY?

Tabipy, like a regular proper noun. In my experience, clever capitalisation
in names is not worth the trouble.

Renamed to Tabipy and uploaded to PyPI. It should now be installable with pip install tabipy.
