Input validation utilizes the inputParser class, which was introduced in R2007a

At least one operation utilizes the dot notation for addressing object properties, which is not valid syntax in MATLAB versions older then R2014b

The user choice helper is unable to locate the matching button label when constructed from a cell array of strings. e.g.

>> nbuttondlg("hi", {"a", "b"});
Unable to perform assignment with 0 elements on the right-hand side.

Error in nbuttondlg/dlgbuttonfcn (line 140)
            userchoice = buttonlabels{find(strcmp(source.String, buttonlabels), 1)};
 
Error while evaluating UIControl Callback.

Rather than getting complicated with the branching logic, will likely implement as a restriction on the input type of ButtonLabels to be a cell array of char or a string array.
