- Atom - my weapon of choice when it comes to editing text files.
- Choose A License - handy resource on OSS licenses by GitHub.
- Emoji cheat sheet - because every commit message should include a ๐ผ
- f.lux - prevents eyestrain
- Focus - an app to block distracting websites. Nice design.
- Homebrew - OSX package management
- Adobe Edge Fonts - large free font library with Typekit as the backend
- Adobe Kuler - nice color palatte library
- AngularJS - frontend data-binding framework (basically witchcraft)
- Beautiful Web Type - the best Google web fonts, plus ideas for heading/body combos
- Brace Forms - HTML forms -> email with no server-side code (see also: squaresend)
- CodeKit - asset compilation for less/sass/coffescript/etc.
- Color Relationship Function Generator Thing - give it two colors, it give you a SASS function to generate one from the other.
- Dictionary Domains - find dictionary word domains on less-common TLDs
- Eloquent Javascript - one of the best and most comprehensive introductions to Javascript out there
- Google Web Fonts - similar to the above, but doesn't require JS and is a Google thing instead of Adobe
- Holder.js - placeholder images with no remote dependencies
- HTML5 UP - static site templates that are free and good
- IcoMoon - customizable icon fonts
- JustGage - nice JS gage library
- Moment.js - comprehensive date formatting/manipulation/query library
- SASS Color Function Visualizer - play with SASS color functions in realtime
- Simpsum - really nice Lorem Ipsum interface
- SpinKit - nice CSS3 loading spinners
- SquareSend - feedback forms to email with no server side code
- Subtle Patterns - tiled retina-ready patterns for design project backgrounds. Related: subtlepatterns bookmarklet.
- SweetAlert - super nice looking responsive replacement for native JS

- Unsplash - free high quality stock photos, no attribution required
- ngrok - tunnel local development servers to a public url 1
- rbenv, ruby-build, & rbenv-gem-rehash - minimal alternative to RVM for ruby version management
- ruby did_you_mean gem - help with NoMethodErrors
- shotgun - auto-reloading server for Ruby development
- squeel - nice query DSL so that you don't ever have to deal with SQL when using ActiveRecord
- VagrantPress - Wordpress development in a Vagrant instance, so you don't have to muck around with MAMP
- Dokku - awesome do-it-yourself hosted PaaS using Heroku buildpacks
- Heroku - awesome PaaS.
- PagodaBox - because trying to do Wordpress on buildpack PaaS providers is annoying 2
- Scout Realtime - beautifully executed open-source server monitoring in the browser.
- @qrohlf does dotfiles - my personal collection of useful bash functions and aliases
- AutoJump - get to the directory you want to work in insanely fast
- git-extras - fancy git bash completion
- homebrew bash-completion2 - nice bash completion, integrated with Homebrew (note: requires bash 4)
- hub - extends git with GitHub powers
- sexy-bash-prompt - colorful git-enabled custom bash prompt
- DevDocs - online documentation browser for web development languages and frameworks.
- OmniRef - awesome online Ruby documentation browser. Includes EVERYTHING.
1 The original tool I used for this is localtunnel, which is simpler and unfortunately now defunct. The ngrok request introspection is a nice touch, though.
