reddit-analyzer's Introduction

reddit-analyzer

usage: reddit-analyzer.py <screen_name>

This is really a simple little tool. It pulls data from an API to tell you:

  • when an account was made
  • when an account posted last
  • how many times a user has posted
  • how much karma they recieved for said posts
  • when they are most active on reddit
  • what subreddits they frequent
  • if any of those subreddits correlate to a physical location

all-locations.txt is a large list of subreddits that are tied to locations in the real world (countries, states, cities, colleges.) If you want lists for just specific reigons, i seperated the lists and they can be found under my other repo, location-subreddits

Special Thanks

I really like tweets_analyzer by @x0rz and this is obviously very heavily inspired by his work with that

Also, a big part of this is that I like projects where I don't have to run around retrieving API keys and throwing them into files to get things to run. God bless pushshift for making this possible.

reddit-analyzer's Issues

Dependency Needed

Any idea what dependency will resolve the following error?

Traceback (most recent call last): File "reddit-analyzer.py", line 190, in <module> timeGraph(timelist) File "reddit-analyzer.py", line 142, in timeGraph d.append(tuple([g, tgdata[e][1]])) IndexError: list index out of range

Please consider adding requirements.txt

Would be a good idea to add a requirements.txt file to the repository, as well as a short note in the README about how to install the script. For instance, I didn't have the ascii_graph module installed. Others might now have requests.

Ideally, make it installable with pip from PyPi.

Handle missing 'created_utc'

 --- fetching data for user: ?? ---

Traceback (most recent call last):
  File "reddit-analyzer.py", line 64, in <module>
    lastpost = postdata[0]['created_utc']
IndexError: list index out of range

Problems processing low-activity accounts

There is some kind of bug when processing accounts that haven't posted much. The script crashes with the following error:

Traceback (most recent call last):
  File "reddit-analyzer.py", line 192, in <module>
    timeGraph(timelist)
File "reddit-analyzer.py", line 144, in timeGraph
    d.append(tuple([g, tgdata[e][1]]))
IndexError: list index out of range

I've printed the contents of tgdata before the loop starts and the values of e as the loop is looping and I got this:

[(2, 1), (3, 1), (4, 5), (6, 1), (7, 2), (9, 1), (10, 1), (18, 2)]
0
1
2
3
4
5
6
7
8

Clearly, the error occurs because the script is trying to get the 9th element of an 8-element array.
