nil and blank values are encrypted because not doing so leaks information (who has the data and who doesn't). I will add a knob to configure this behavior. In the meantime, you can bypass the encryption and set the attribute nil or blank using:

# Outside the model
@object[:secret] = nil # or ''

# Inside the model
self[:secret] = '' # or nil

before_save is probably the place to do this.

Setting any other value will break as Strongbox will assume it is encrypted data.
