bitterpro's Issues

`weight` + `italic` axes combined?

Would it be possible to combine both, the weight and italic axes of the variable fonts into one variable font?
This would reduce font size and required files when the font is used in different weights, together with normal and italic styles.

Lines spacing

Hello,

I consider the Bitter font to be perfect and I use it in practically all my projects. recently when downloading the latest version from google fonts I noticed that there was an updated version, but this new version was actually 'Bitter Pro', and the spacing between the lines of it was quite different from the previous one.

At first I was willing to replace everything I have with the old font for the new one. However, as I used the new one I noticed, at least in my opinion, that it already seemed to be right, in larger texts it was always necessary to define a larger spacing in the app for good aesthetics.

Having said that, I would like to ask if this is a desired feature for this new version, or is it really something that will be tweaked at some point in the future.

.notdef glyph contours flip direction

There’s a problem in the .notdef glyph (both Roman and Italic) such that it flips direction twice as the wght axis is adjusted from 100 to 900. The flipping has these properties:

  • wght=100: outlines have correct orientation
  • wght=500: outlines have incorrect orientation
  • wght=900: outlines have correct orientation, but appear scaled by ~102% compared with the glyph at wght=100 and wght=500

The intermediate gvar pivoting around 500 is curious as this font does not have a master at that location, only masters at 100 and 900.
