Sponsor Agile DevOps East - Orlando

Sponsor Agile DevOps East - Orlando

User Story

As a co-organizer of Orlando DevOps group, I would like to start by investigating sponsoring the Agile DevOps East conference (Expo) in Orlando so that we can spread the word more about Orlando DevOps and anything we do in the future.

Tasks

  • Contact TechWell the Organizers
  • Determine if there is a cost
  • Will we be able to staff a booth
  • Can we get some stickers or other give away things?

Extra Notes

NOTE: None right now, but I am sure I will think of something.

Learn about ODevs resources

Learn about ODevs resources

User Story

As a co-organizer of Orlando DevOps community group, I would like to discover and learn about the things in the tasks from Orlando Devs so that we can leverage the tools and resources that can be shared as opposed to creating our own so that we can same time and/or money.

Tasks

  • O'Devs GitHub repo
  • Is there a SurveyMonkey Account for Orlando Devs
  • Can we utilize the Astronaut logo and replace the >_ with gears? DoD Logo Guide
  • Slides
  • Is there a Constant Contact or other Email tracking tool?
  • Results of speaker forms?
  • What Socials does Orlando Devs use? (We want to create our own but we should be members of each other)
  • Is there a Orlando Devs Community Group meeting - annual or whatnot?
  • Patreon - send all folks to one? Create our own?
  • Eventbrite to have "pay" registration / tickets. This WILL be required if we get to DevOpsDays level or even like 50+ person registrations. This helps with tracking too.
  • Google Workspace for Non-Profit ?
  • Common Room? (10k / yr)
  • Meetup API OAuth
  • Add all this information to odevs-resources.md

Extra Notes

NOTE: Ask these questions at meeting #7

Meetup event - Learn Git (possibly separate from https://www.meetup.com/orlando-devops/events/296295949/)

Meetup event - Learn Git

User Story

As an event organizer of Orlando DevOps group, I would like to create an event to help people learn Git that are struggling with it so that they can better understand the automation side of DevOps. I don't think there's nearly as much a need to go over GitHub specifically.

Tasks

  • Decide a date
  • Decide a venue
  • List of things to go over
  • Resubscribe to Zoom for screen sharing

Cool DevOps things you can do with Git

  • Work in parallel with other people and not step on each other's toes
  • CI/CD, of course
  • Pull requests
  • Merge one baseline into another with pipelines
  • Automerge master into all branches

Things to focus on

  • Visualizing the history, second most important way to know what's going on (first being the branches)
    • You want a history graph. GitHub Desktop only shows linear history, VSCode (by default) shows no history
    • git log --graph --oneline
    • VSCode extension, such as GGP (search extensions for LinJUn.git-graph-pro)
    • Fork
  • BYOBugs - Encourage attendees to screenshare with their own Git issues for their own personal projects.
  • Difference between local and remote, especially if there are multiple people
  • What is headless?
  • Go through a few under-the-hood details; mainly what's in that .git folder
  • Corner-cases to better understand the big picture
    • What if you push to a branch that someone else has already pushed to?
    • What if you move a branch while someone else is using it?
    • TODO: Be prepared to demo rebase, but don't expect things to get that advanced.
    • What is origin/HEAD?
    • Difference between checking out the same commit as a branch and the actual branch
  • Note that if you tag locally, push, then the tag for remote is moved, you may not see it locally, even on a normal pull. (git fetch --tags)
  • Example of using multiple remotes. Fork from MS, bugfix one of the AI lessons, and create a PR.

Organize September Lean Coffee / Beer Event in Lake Mary area

As an organizer of Orlando DevOps Meetup, I would like to have organized, scheduled, and posted the Meetup Event on (or about) September 19th at 7pm in Lake Mary so that we can start to move the monthly lean coffee / beer events around and attract new people.

Organize "August DevOps Lean Beer" Event

Organize August DevOps Lean Beer Event

User Story

As an organizer of Orlando DevOps Meetup, I would like to have organized, scheduled, and posted the Meetup Event on August 17th at 7pm in Lake Nona so that we can start to move the monthly lean coffee / beer events around.

Tasks

  • Find the Location Boxi Park
  • Create the Event in Meetup. Meetup Event Link
  • Promote on LinkedIn Group Post
  • Publish on ODevs Slack
  • Gather and Bring Materials
  • Create Slide Deck for ODevs Requirements
  • #10

Extra Notes

NOTE: This is the first time we are trying Boxi Park.

Create Exit Survey (How did we do?)

Subtask Issue for #3

Mostly I was just playing around with being able to create an issue from an existing issue. It is pretty sweet.

So yeah, as a co-host of the August DevOps Lean Beer event, I would like to create an Exit survey to get thoughts from folks who came so that we know what went well and what didn't to help plan for future events.

Investigate locations for DevOps Days

Investigate locations for DevOps Days

User Story

As a co-organizer of Orlando DevOps group, I would like to find a location for hosting a DevOps Days convention so that we are able to host a DevOps Days convention.

Tasks

  • Determine criteria (expected amount of people, budget, etc)
  • Come up with a list of candidates
  • Investigate each candidate
  • Pull the trigger

Extra Notes

@snohio has many ideas on this

Officially Join Orlando Devs as a "Community"

Officially Join Orlando Devs as a "Community"

User Story

As a co-organizer of Orlando DevOps group, I would like to officially join Orlando Devs (ODevs) as a Community Group About Them so that we can leverage their 501(c)(3) non-profit status for events and coverage, resources such as Credo Conduit and Slack, and access to more folks that might be interested in the Security and Ops side of the industry.

Tasks

  • Internally discuss pros and cons to become a Community Group of O-Devs
  • Make a decision to become a Community Group of O-Devs

If that is YES:

  • Set up a meeting with O-Devs president, Brian Rinaldi (August 11th at Noon)
  • Complete any paperwork or else needful for officially becoming a Community group
  • Add a member of our Orlando DevOps to their Orlando Devs Board of Advisors (@snohio)
  • Let people know on Slack that we have joined and provide more information
  • We should also publish on our socials.

Extra Notes

NOTE: There probably are a lot of questions or just follow up actions to take place as a result of this US. Let us try to track those as best as we can here.

๐Ÿ›‘ Create Social Media Groups / Accounts for Orlando DevOps

Create Social Media Groups / Accounts for Orlando DevOps

User Story

As a co-organizer of Orlando DevOps group, I would like to create social groups / accounts so that can better spread the word about our events outside of just Meetup notifications and keep people informed on what we are up to

Tasks

  • Based on results from a survey, figure out the best socials to participate in
  • Create Social Groups or Accounts where appropriate (Use chart below)
  • Look at Common Room as a tool to help manage and measure socials
  • Send notifications to all constituents to connect and join!
Social Network Group / Acct Name Link Directly To Created Shared Connected to CR
LinkedIn Orlando DevOps Community Group https://www.linkedin.com/groups/12876376/ Yes No Cost Associated
Example Orlando DevOps https://linqapp/orlando_devops No No No
Email List (possibly MailChimp) based on survey results Orlando DevOps TBD No No TBD

Extra Notes

NOTE: We will need to coordinate and time the release of these IMO. I don't want to just jump right away here, but we need to start thinking about it. Also, we should check if there are already existing ones and try to capture that info.

Create a Survey for the DevOps Members

Create a Survey for the DevOps Members

User Story

As a leader of the Devops Orlando organizing team, I would like to create and send a Survey to all old members of DevOps Orlando Meetup members and the ODevs members so that we know what topics people want to hear about and days that work the best for them.

Useful Information

Edit the Survey Here

Build a map from the survey

Build a map from the survey

User Story

As a co-organizer of Orlando DevOps group, I would like to build a map so that we know where people are coming from. @snohio mentioned there was a tool out there to easily do this.

Tasks

  • Find a Tool Mapline
  • Enter Data from the first 22 people.
  • Paste results
  • Continue entering

Extra Notes

It's not obvious from our results where most people are coming from, so we don't know where the ideal locations are.

Agenda / Issues (Tasks) Review

Done / Review

  • DevOpsDays Tampa Review. There wasn't a card for this, but curious of thoughts.
  • #2 - Discuss the results thus far. We need to keep pushing this survey. 21 was good, but let's keep it going!
  • #13
  • #4 Review and Close

Doing / Blocked:

  • #6 - Let's get these files in an /assets folder in this repo and close!
  • #11 - Still not getting an answer back. I've emailed and LinkedIn Message the person.
  • #7 - Brian announced us right? I think a LinkedIn Post / other socials? and we are done.
  • #9 - Using the results from the Survey, let's circle back to this at the end.
  • #8 - Working with Lauren to get access to Google Workspace and GitHub. Those are my two big ones.
  • #14 - This seems in Active Process. Let's take notes on that card.

Ready Tasks:

  • None right now

Backlog:

  • #3 - I moved to Backlog because I'd rather just become an admin of O-Devs GitHub Org.

Things needing a card

  • Follow up to #11 - do we want an attending card? See Lean Beer, do we want to host one in that area or even do an Open Spaces that evening (the 8th) That is actually our "monthly" meetup date.
  • Upcoming Meetups (Let's get cards for October, November, December Lean events. Let's brainstorm on those events.)
  • Orlando DevFest - GDG
  • DevOpsDays Site Discovery (I'm kinda high on this one right now)

Review the MILESTONES

  • Q3-23 Milestones
Let's close this milestone and start working on Q4-23 Milestone.
  • Q4-23 Milestones
Review the goals that I've laid forth for October - December of 2023.

Wrap Up

So long and thanks for all the fish!

Research Github Org creation for Orlando DevOps

Orlando DevOps GitHub Repo

User Story

As a co-organizer of Orlando DevOps group, I would like to research and possibly create a Github org specifically for the Orlando DevOps group so that we can keep all of the Hackathon, Orlando DevOps notes, Web content and anything else we do in a unified and transferable location.

Tasks

  • Does Orlando Devs already have one that we should just get permissions to?
  • Is there a cost associated with this if it is for a Non-profit organization?
  • Do we need our non-profit information - if so this would be under ODevs and does that circle back to task number one.
  • Create an Orlando DevOps Organization (if that is the decision) with @snohio @mbuchoff @RecoveringChef and @estebang

Extra Notes

Create Stickers with logo

Consider:

  • cost
  • quality
  • due date
  • do we want other swag (too early IMO)

Known options:

  • Champions Graphics. Mike Butler knows Ted personally - Ted Wahl II
    • No active website!
  • Sticker mule
    • $185 for 2x3" for 500. $137 for 300.
    • $9 for 10 sample stickers
  • VistaPrint doesn't have our exact desired size. $261 for 300
  • UPrinting
    • $225.93 for 250 2x3 (glossy and matte are same price)
    • $236.45 for 500 of the same stickers
  • CustomStickers.com
    • Only one dimension is specified. Unclear if it is the longest dimension (w x h) or the diagonal length, even after uploading our image
    • $95.99 for 250, $149.99 for 500
    • Matte and gloss are same price

Create a Logo for Orlando DevOps

Create a Logo for Orlando DevOps

As a co-organizer of Orlando DevOps group, I would like to have an Orlando DevOps logo so that can start creating content with it.

Tasks

  • Find someone to take on the task
  • Create the Logo(s)
  • Get review from the O-DO group.
  • Approval from ODevs too while we are at it.
  • Add files to GitHub repo (link)

Extra Notes

See examples in the comments.
