Data-Driven Method for Li-Ion Battery Health Monitoring

Description

Li-Ion batteries are increasing in usage due to the aim of sustainable development and other benefits it provides as compared to other batteries. Being able to predict the SOH of Li-Ion Batteries has also grown in importance, and the method of data-driven model online state-of-health (SOH) prediction is an efficient way of completing the task necessary. We proposed a simple and effective ML framework with long short-term memory (LSTM) and Gated Recurrent Unit (GRU) model for this situation to predict SOH, avoiding the problems of high complexity, low interpretability, and high training costs. Predictions made using GRU have shown to be of high accuracy with an average root mean squared error (RMSE) of 0.724%.

Getting Start

Download the dataset

This project use the open source dataset Oxford Battery Degradation Dataset 1 [1].

These data are copyright (c) 2017, The Chancellor, Masters and Scholars of the University of Oxford, and the 'Oxford Battery Degradation Dataset 1' researchers. All rights reserved.

This 'Oxford Battery Degradation Dataset 1' is made available under the Open Database License: http://opendatacommons.org/licenses/odbl/1.0/. Any rights in individual contents of the database are licensed under the Database Contents License: http://opendatacommons.org/licenses/dbcl/1.0/

The Readme file for the dataset can be found under ./datasets/Readme.txt

Download the datasets before training and testing, and put the file Oxford_Battery_Degradation_Dataset_1.mat under ./datasets.

Setup

To set up the project, create a virtual environment based on Python 3.10 with Jupyter-Notebook. Activate the virtual environment and run:

pip install -r requirements.txt

nrp_2022_eee12's Issues

KeyError: 'cyc1500' thrown by In[5] in main_torch.ipynb

The code snippet from In[5] below in main_torch.ipynb

for i in range(0, 8): #breaks down dataset to return the values that we need
    cell_num = "Cell{}".format(i + 1)
    for j in range(0, CELL_SIZE[i]):
        cyc_num = "cyc{:04d}".format(j * 100) # if j=47, cyc_num = "cyc4700"; if j=1, cyc_num = "cyc0100"
        try:
            curr = mat[cell_num][0][cyc_num][0][0]["C1ch"][0][0]['q'][0][-1][0]
        except ValueError:
            curr = float("NaN")
        input_data[i][0].append(j)
        input_data[i][1].append(curr)

throws the error KeyError: 'cyc1500' as the Oxford Battery Degradation Dataset 1 doesn't contain cyc1500:
