back-to-search's Issues

Close the current tab when hitting "back" with no history

Sometimes when a link opens in a new tab, I'll instinctively use the "back" shortcut to go back to previous page, only to discover that I need to use a different shortcut (Ctrl + W).

I'd like this extension to detect when the user tries to navigate back in a tab with no history to go back to. In that event, the extension should prompt the user You're at the beginning of this tab's history. Hit "back" again to close the tab.

Additionally there should be options to:

  1. disable this feature completely
  2. close the tab on the first "back" instead of asking for confirmation

Shortcut should work across tabs

Workflow:

  1. Open browser
  2. Search
  3. Click result
  4. Open a link on that page in a new tab
  5. Switch to the new tab
  6. Activate Back To Search
  7. Expected: Current tab closes, previous tab returns to search from step (6)

Use tab.openerTabId to track this. Becomes more complicated when the original tab is no longer open. Maybe it should reopen the tab with chrome.sessions?
