My original thought was to go with GPL, but not v3 because Torvalds had very valid criticism of it. Then I read something that heavily criticised GPL itself, and I thought that was a valid concern.
I also had no idea the MIT license was so widely used.

Someone said, "A friend of mine once pointed out that licenses tell you what the license authors were scared of." That's an interesting point.
