inventree-zebra-plugin's Issues

Printing quality

Hello,

I'm currently using a dymo direct thermal printer for my InvenTree labels, but I'm also planning to buy a Zebra thermal transfer printer. I'm just wondering about the quality. I saw that you have already done some quality tests of the barcode resolution with the Zebra printers and at the end you also mention the alternative native ZPL approach without the html/css template in between.

I would be interested to know whether you have tested both variants and noticed any differences in quality, or whether the HTML/CSS label template variant with the correct QR code scaling delivers just as good results as the native ZPL variant?

I am also wondering to what extent smaller labels work for the Zebra printers, because with these there are always 4 labels next to each other on the roll, which means I would always have to print 4 labels at once to get a label. Is it also possible to print such labels with ZPL? Do one then create a label that stretches over all 4 and then only use the places where the individual labels are located?

Best,
Lukas

Question: how to access Zebra pritner from a cloud server

I have installed Inventree on a cloud server and have a Zebra printer at our warehouse. I think this is a common scenario for Inventree users.

My question - is it possible for the cloud server to access that Zebra printer? The only solution I had was to use a VPN, which I'm not excited about just to enable a printer.

I would appreciate thoughts towards a solution; maybe I'm missing the simple answer. Thanks
Ted

updated from 0.3.1 to 0.5.1 lots of issues

is there any way that i can get my hands on the plugin 0.3.1 ? since I've upgraded it to the latest issue, the quality lowered drastically, and I mean by a mile, It's havind difficulties printing since it seems that the plugin manages way more the printer than it used to. It also looks like there was way too much pressure applied while printing QR codes or big characters. see attached picutre: on top is the 0.5.1 ones, below them, its the ones generated in 0.3.1

Publish to pypi

Hello Michael,

I'm using your plugin now with my zebra printer, but after installing it, InvenTree gets significantly slower while starting because it first checks and installs the plugins from the plugins.txt file. However this process is really slow with plugins that are provided via git, because the repo needs to be first cloned to see if there is a new version or not. For testing purposes and experimental plugins this is a great setup. Are you planning on also publishing this plugin on a python package registry like pypi?

Switch to machine driver interface

Now that inventree/InvenTree#4824 is merged, InvenTree>=0.14 offers a new way of providing a connection with printers that is much more flexible because it supports:

  • adding multiple printers of the same type that can be individually configured
  • printers can be managed more easily and independently, if they use a printing driver instead of a label mixin
  • printers can provide a status to the user (e.g. connected, out of media, ...)

You can read more about it here, or ask me any question if something is unclear.

I would be happy to contribute the implementation if you want.
