scottcolfer.github.io's Issues

Readability and overall styling needs improvement

The homepage of my website is styled to be in the centre of the page, within margins. It looks quite good.
However, this impacts the rest of my website, which also has this centralised layout - meaning that posts have only a few words per line when reading on mobile. Not ideal.

The original design inspiration for my website was something modest, short, and simple. Go back in time three years when i began this page and I was working as a Senior Product Manager and planned occasional posts about product management, for myself, that no one would read. So posts are on a separate page and the site doesn't adequately take them into account in its design. Since then, I've become Head of Product and stats and feedback suggest that people do read my posts. I'd like to make them more of a feature of index.html and improve their layout and styling.

No analytics on site

In moving to vanilla Minima I've removed the site's analytics, need to figure out how to reintroduce them.

Not easy to find my articles

I've written a bunch of stuff for other people but it's not easily visible

Text linking to social media accounts is clunky

Currently, text on front page to highlight and link to social media accounts is clunky. Removing it and linking elsewhere would simplify this main text.

Minima has social link functionality according to its readme.
For my purposes it should look like the following

# generate social links in footer
minima:
  social_links:
    twitter: [username]
    github: [username]
    linkedin: [username]

I'll try just Twitter first and see if it works.

Not currently possible to comment on posts

It's not currently possible to comment on posts.
Minima supports Disqus.
I've set up a Disqus account.
The Minima readme suggests that I add commenting by adding the following to the configuration file:

  disqus:
    shortname: my_disqus_shortname

I'll give it a try

Homepage includes link to non-existant RSS feed

The RSS feed exists because of Minima's home layout which refers to
/feed.xml
This suggests that I can create /feed.xml within the site's main directory and that this will make the RSS subscription work.

I created an rss feed for my own site and still have a copy in my backup.
I should be able to paste that into a new feed.xml file and resolve this.
