By setting the textarea's background-color to transparent while dragging, the background-color of the underlying element can bleed through:

I was wondering why this is needed and if we can remove or set it to a solid colour instead

I'd like to propose some enhancements:

• move handler icon inside the textarea (bottom right), similar to the native chrome/firefox handlers.

• increase minHeight of textarea to 1 "row" (similar to firefox)
  

• transparent background for the handler icon to make it look better on non-white backgrounds:
  

• auto height sizing according to contents (row="auto"?)
