For comparision, the group::Group trait has an associated type Scalar: ff::PrimeField, which constrains the scalars to be canonical.

I think this issue is obsoleted by recent changes:
- The type mentioned in the OP is now called
ScalarBytesand is a type alias toGenericArray<u8, _>. As bytes, these are expected to be able to contain any value. - Crates with arithmetic each have their own
Scalartype - The
Scalartype is now an associated type of theelliptic_curve::Arithmetictrait
In that regard, the concrete Scalar types for each crate enforce the invariants described in the OP.
